We seem to have stopped that nonsense now but it is still a worry. Borini with another goal today I think he'll prove the doubters wrong next season.

I'll give you a not606 fiver if he scores 8 goals. When we got promoted I didn't think he was good enough for us in the Prem never mind Liverpool.

Reports at the weekend suggested that Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis was in a good old fashioned transfer tug-of-war between Welsh rivals MK Wales and Swansea City.

The Redbirds have long been interested in the 27-year-old French international. And having finally secured Premier League football, it was believed that manager Malky Mackay would follow up initial enquiries with an offer for a striker approaching the last year of his contract.

The only problem was, Michael Laudrup was said to be considering a swoop of his own. And stories today suggest the Swans are now in pole position for Gomis.

But were they ever not? Surely in its simplest form, any competition between MK Wales and Swansea for a player of such quality is no competition at all.

And that isn’t meant as an insult – no matter how much it may sound like one. It is simply a statement of fact. Because regardless of the money on offer, and regardless of what MK Wales may aspire to in the coming seasons, Swansea have already done it.

They have secured top flight stability. They have conquered the troublesome second year, improving on their freshman efforts rather than succumbing to the all-too-common second season syndrome. They have won a trophy and they have secured European football.

MK Wales, on the other hand, have it all to do; which isn’t to say they won’t do it, only that at 27, and with 16 league goals last season for a side that finished third in Ligue 1, Gomis will surely pick a European campaign and a crack at bettering ninth over an attempt to help a new club find their feet.

Both sides have crucial summers ahead of them. It has already been reported that Laudrup is frustrated at a lack of transfer activity, while Mackay will have to work hard and fast to ensure he has a squad capable of Premier League survival and whatever comes next.

Gomis would be a worthy and useful helper in that cause. But I can’t see him choosing them. Not when Swansea can offer him the chance to do what he is best at, having already stamped their identity on the league.

MK Wales are far more likely to sign lesser lights, players few outside their country have heard of, players like the ones Swansea signed last summer in fact. And look what happened to them.

Don't think we should get ahead of ourselves here, there is no such thing as an established side in this league, well the top six besides. If this guy signs so be it, but it won't be on the team specifically, it will be on how good a salesman Jenkins, Laudrup and co are at persuading him to come here.

He's not our player until he puts pen to paper, he could easily sign for Cardiff or anyone else who comes in for him.

I think its an allusion to MK Dons - ie Wimbledon of old, who sold their soul and relocated to Milton Keynes to become the MK Dons.

The idea of franchise football teams is endemic in the US (as you know) but it's almost unheard of in the UK.

Cardiff have sold their soul in a similar way when they rebranded to red and that stupid dragon badge with the shrivelled bluebird.

Hence "MK Wales". Maybe we could also call them the Cardiff Dons (btw, "dons" in French means "gifts", how appropriate for the team that keeps on giving! )

Gomis will sign for Swansea as he will have the opportunity of European football. I do not think MM will break the bank for him. If he did pick us over you guys then he's not the type of player MM likes to bring in. Never say never....

SWANSEA City face competition from mega-rich Monaco in their bid to sign Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis.
Lyon owner Jean-Michel Aulas says he is willing to sell French international Gomis, who has been linked with an £8 million move to the Swans.

Swansea City have been linked with a move for Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis
But Michael Laudrup’s side could be gazumped by newly-promoted Ligue 1 side Monaco, who are in the midst of an outlandish spending spree.
Bankrolled by Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev, the Principality club have signed Radamel Falcao from Atletico Madrid for around £50 million, as well as Joao Moutinho, James Rodriguez, Ricardo Carvalho and Eric Abidal.

As well as financial incentives, Gomis’s international prospects are believed to have a major bearing on his decision.
Monaco will undoubtedly be able to offer him a more lucrative deal than Swansea or Cardiff, who have also been touted as potential suitors for the 27-year-old.
But with Gomis desperate to secure a place in the French squad for next summer’s World Cup, reports in France suggest he would favour a transfer to another Ligue 1 club.

He wasn't that good anyway <whistle>

If he wants to be second fiddle to Ibrahimovich and still think he'll get into the French side then fair play. The French are pretty rubbish of late which is unsurprising if they all have that attitude

If Monaco are interested, and I doubt it, as a few of the Bar staff out here think it's a none starter, as they think Monaco will go for a higher profile player, so that's the take of the french lads out here, but if they are wrong then we've had it!...................<cheers>

PS: Up to the minute reporting from Swans not606 Riveria Scout!...............<laugh>
