    When the scots have a referendum we'll see if they consider themselves British! British is just a name for a collection of countries to me! I'm ENGLISH

    I have no problem with people calling themselves Scottish, English or half and half or Welsh & British.

    I'd class myself half English & half Jock. But i'm also proud to be British to a certain extent. Nowt too nationalist. Just proud of the UK and what we brought to the world.

    If Scotland goes independent then so be it. I reckon it'll be a shame, but it's their choice at the end of the day.

    One of the big problems is it's not their choice. All those Scots who have embraced the UK and are living throughout England, Wales, and NI can't vote because they don't have a Scottish postcode. It's a farce because they obviously know that most of them people would not vote for independence because they haven't got their heads stuck up their arses. Fix the vote before you host it!

    There's a lot who would've preferred Devo Max rather than full Independence in Scotland.

    And there's a big opposition to the SNP.

    Whether that means they stay in the UK is another matter.

    If anyone had watched the Queen's final, you would have seen that one of Murray's best friends has cancer and there was an Exhibition match to raise money for the said charity. Those taking part included Tim Henman, Boris Johnson, Michael McIntire, Jonathan Ross, Jimmy Carr and Richard Branson. With this sort of publicity, it could hardly go unnoticed. I am sure it is a more worthwhile cause than trying to dodge the taxman!!!

    That's bollocks. I had the misfortune to live in Scotland for 3 years. They DO hate the English. It's expected. Most English couldn't care less about them one way or the other. That must rankle badly I guess too.

    If a Scottish team, or sportsman is doing anything, we're expected, and some do, to support them because they're British. If an England team or sportsman is doing anything, the jocks are expected, and do, support the other team regardless of who they are.

    This is not made up stuff from me, this is 100% my experiences of living in that god forsaken country, which I genuinely hope gets independence.

    They've had their cake and eaten it for long enough, time to cut them adrift. Lets see if they can afford free Uni places and all the other benefits they like to dish out to the natives then.

    Depends who get's the North Sea and it's hydrocarbon resources, Scotland would do just fine if they kept it for themselves.

    'The Cheviot, the Stag and the black, black oil'

    - It's the title of a John McGrath play, but it hits three points:
    1/ The Cheviot is the breed of sheep that populated the land, following the Clearances;
    2/ The Stag represents the huge estates;
    3/ The black oil is found in Scottish territorial waters.

    All three reveal the English dominance of the Scots - people and nation; all three are cause for any hatred of us they might hold.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/tennis/22933020 - Just to get it slightly back on topic. Bit of video from the charity match after Murray had made a promise to hit his coach during the game. Lendl had promised to have him in doing circuits first thing on Monday if he did it...

    On the other topic, I lived in Scotland for 6 years and the majority of people were not particularly bothered about England and very few people went on about it. In fact most of the ones that did were just being curmudgeonly for effect rather than a deep seated hatred of us. It might well depend on whereabouts you are, of course.

    So none of the Scots enjoyed the successes of English, Welsh or Irish sportsmen as part of the British Olympic team last year? Come on now, you're being daft.

    You had a few run ins with a few Scots, probably when England were playing at the World Cup, and they shot their mouths off. That's not a reflection of the whole country.

    Wrong. Assumptions are silly. I lived there when England didn't qualify but Scotland did. Have been back many a time since then too when I was in the RAF. Nothing's changed. They enjoyed the success of their sportsmen and gave not one crap about the rest. They do not like us. They like being Scottish. Not British. Not being associated with the English. Oh and for the record, the oil that British companies extract, is fook all to do with me, but hating me because I'm English then mentioning that as an excuse is pretty stupid.

    Why exactly do you say Murray shouldn't have to support England in the world cup, what else would we expect? That statement pretty much validates my views on how we're looked on as English, and also sums up my views on the Jocks. I'd never ever support them or anything from that part of the UK ever.

    Sport and Politics should be seperate. It's fine to have a rivalry, and that's why Murray doesn't support England at football.

    The Nationalists in Scotland may dislike the English, but there's a fair support for the UK north of the border.

    But it's up to them, not you.

    Maybe if you weren't so anti Scotland, as you sound quite bitter yourself, then you'd get along better when you're up there.
