I wouldnt mind Downing for another season for the squad depth. I dont want to much player heaped on the youngsters again if some one gets a big injury.

Alberto and Aspas for Shelvey and Downing - good swap in my opinion. I hope we do get rid both - should generate around £10m (maybe just below) but neither can contribute to the first team consistently and neither give me any confidence when on the pitch.

We'll either get Mkhi or Eriksen - not both as both are similar and plus we have Coutinho. Both have been scouted extensively however Mkhi is the one who has impressed more. (In a perfect world, I would love both!). What would be interesting is where Mkhi would play - as the classic number 10 thus forcing Coutinho on the wing, or play him deeper (replacement for Gerrard) and keep Coutinho as number 10.

The biggest signing for me would be Papa - we need a big presence in defence and he fills the void. Born leader and fighter and also has the ability to play as DM thus giving us a decent back up option for Lucas.

No he's not needed. Not like we even have EL. Much rather Suso or Morgan come in for Downing if we are placing early stage cup games. Downing should be sold, his value will only ever go down from here on

I agree - we can use a youngster or Aspas who can provide more output (or even the same level of output if we're unlucky) for less money. Downing is on very good wages.

Speaking of useless players on high wages, Carroll looks set to have a medical today according to the Echo. However, Joke In Here (Kinnear) has announced that he's looking to bring in another striker and I think he's after Carroll - could cause further delays ...

Although I agree with you I can see a couple of reasons he might stay. Firstly we don't get a decent offer (more than possible) and Rodgers decides he can keep him just to provide some squad continuity. Secondly, despite the fact he's ****e what he does do is know when to drop off and cover when Johnson/Enricky bomb forward...basically he offers a certain flexibility that we all know Rodgers looks for.

Don't get me wrong I won't shed any tears if he goes (maybe a few tears of joy) but I can see a certain sense in keeping him until Jan just so we aren't starting the season with a whole new first team.

On the Mky position, I read an analysis yesterday saying that we'd get better out of him playing deep/box to box or on the wing because while he has pace, awareness & timing his first touch is iffy which would be a negative in the Coutinho role. So just behind or to the right of Coutinho? Some may not like this but do you not think BR sees Allen as the 2nd player in the Coutinho position?

I'll see if I can find the article as it explains it better than me.....

I think he'd best play a deep role at first in the PL.

He played there for Shaktar until this season past. He has great stamina and is very tidy, he could do well, and would be very involved from the offset - good for a signing with that level of expectation.

He looked good for Armenia v Denmark in a wing/no 10 role though. Watched him and he was impressive - always new when to dribble and when to lay the ball for a team-mate. Arrived late in the box well ala Lampard.

Who else reads about this guy and hears it in there head like this:

Mahesh takes a look at Henrikh blahblahblahblah and discusses how Brendan Rogers might look to use him, should the Reds manage to sign the talented Armenian.
