No, you didn't just catch a couple of poor games, because Fryers has been distinctly average so far. Reasonable, without being outstanding going forward, but as you rightly say, all over the place when required to defend. There is a feeling within the club that he's a bit too big for his boots and needs taking down a step or two, and efforts were made towards the end of the season to remind him of what his attitude should be. I don't know how this LB situation will progress, but whatever happens, Danny Rose is certainly a far better option than Zeki Fryers at the moment.
Don't judge him on the U21 tournament he'll be England's #1 left back in a few years. He's defensively very solid, fast and good going forward. Hope we can persuade AVB to sell!
Are we on about the same bloke? I don't know what I call fast but nobody outpaced him for speed for us last season! If ur comparing him to Bale and Lennon then fair enough!
I've never felt the need to come on the Spurs board but now I'm here ill ask u all a question. Rumour has it the fastest player over 100m in your squad is actually Kaboul. This was said in an interview by a Spurs player (can't remember who). True or false?
He started out as a winger for us and one of the reasons we never persevered with him there was because he didn't show enough pace to beat a player on the outside.
It was Bale who said it, he was asked in interview who he thought was fastest himself or Lennon, and Bales answer was don't discount Younes Kaboul.
Pretty much the only entry in the "pros" column for me re. Danny Rose is what Sunderland fans have been saying about him. For Spurs he looked like a winger whose final ball was not very good and didn't look likely to beat a player. Now he's a full-back who can't defend very well. Um - sell? Absolutely not a replacement for BAE as far as I can see.
I'd sell. Don't think he'll ever be as good as Benny, plus the option of Vertonghen at LB if need be (and Fryers if desperate), I think it'd be more beneficial for us (financially) and Rose (footballing wise) if he were moved on.
Could well be true. Pace over 100m is not that big a deal in football as how often do you sprint the entire length of the pitch? Pace over 30-50yds (for a counter) and pace over 10yds are much more important and i feel Bale/Lennon would trounce Kaboul over those.
Yeah Kaboul's a beast. Wouldn't say the fastest but definitely one of. I'd say, 100m sprint: 1st - Walker. 2nd - Lennon (would've pissed it a year or two ago though, injuries have slowed him down a little). 3rd - Bale. 4th - Kaboul. 5th - Fredericks. Though make it 400m and Bale will lap them all.
Slightly off topic I know, but there are grapevine rumours that Kolarov maybe available from City in this window? If he was an option, then I'd snaffle him up, sell Benny, loan out Rose (again) and make Kolarov our first choice for the next two years or so?
I actually said a couple months back that if available, I'd take Kolarov. Think he's a good player and has a mean free kick. Still a big fan of Benny though so I'm not overly fussed if we sign a new LB or not.
Not sure how Kolorov would be good business frankly..... Only 18 months younger than Benny (age apparently being a factor for moving him on) Coming from City he will be on mega-money - disproportionate to his worth to us. Cost Citeh £19m in 2010, so unless out of contract the fee will still be high Decent enough player, but would he actually provide an improvement on what we have already got?? Personally not convinced. Apart from that I reckon he would be a good target!!
