Sorry guys, but going off thread for a minute, it seems that our interest in Paulinho is prominent in the news this morning. Apparently, the buy out clause is â¬20mil - which, according to one source ( Goal.com) we are willing to meet. Competition is provided by Inter-Milan and possibly Shaktar, but we are apparently the current front runners. Let's hope it doesn't develop into a money pissing contest!
appently we are a long way down the road to signing him,AVB also wants Diamio and Villa, then he will stay at Spurs because they will be backing his ambition
Morning all, back from a little holiday in Devon. Haven't really been able to keep up to date with Spurs as my phone signal has been ****e. Looks like the Paulinho and/ or Bernard links may have some strength as many reports claiming their agent is in London. Although both would be welcomed additions, quite surprised we're not pushing for a striker first. That's gotta be the priority in my opinion. Was surprised at us releasing Jack Munns, I was under the impression he was one of our more talented youngsters, not in the same class as Pritchard/ Carroll but someone who perhaps with a bit more guidance COULD have had a future with us. Wish him all the best though. Wish Gallas all the best too, last season he was dodgy but his first two seasons with us he was a valuable asset and a great signing. I presume he'll play on for 1 or 2 more years, wouldn't mind seeing him return in a coaching role in the future.
ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH! Anyway, transfer situation could be worse, we could have just appointed Joe Kinnear
I don't think you can prioritise too much, more like have lots of options running alongside each other. Obviously we need a striker badly but we can't afford to focus only on this until we make the signing as then others signings may not have enough time to get off the ground.
Yeah fair point there mate. I wouldn't want to jeopardise moves for the likes of Paulinho/ Bernard and what not by solely focussing on a striker but at the same time I also think we need to look at bringing in a striker as our main priority. All well and good (potentially) bringing these Brazilian lads in but when we haven't got a top draw striker to finish off chances, it leaves us in the gutter. I don't know enough of Paulinho to speculate though, is he mustard or just a fancy name? Bernard I've seen a number of times, great talent and would definitely have him for the right price.
Anyone noticed a lot of Brazilians seems to be choosing "English" names. Bernard. Oscar. Fred. Wallace. Jo.
Maybe if English players started adopting Brazilian-esque names, it could also help adopt the Brazilian style? Roonaldinho. Walcottio. Lampardos. Walkernaldo.
I agree, we suffered for it big time last season especially when Defoe was off form. Paulinho looked good against Japan the other day, took his goal brilliantly
