I haven't looked into it. But, if Paulinho runs true to the traditional Brazilian formula, he will be subject to second, or even third party ownership. All of this usually means that he will end up where they pay the most.

Err no, that was not the case at all. Spurs were in deep financial poop thanks to Irving Scholar then, and when Alan Sugar came in he had some 20mill of debt to sort, selling Gazza was unfortunately a quick and necessary step to satisfy our creditors with a chunk of the 5 mill or whatever it was we got for him. Bankruptcy was looming, have you forgot that?

If you look at my avatar you can see Gazza is my favourite player, so I responded purely to that before you start droning on about me being at you again...its just a coincidence! :D

Regarding your other coincidental observations, did you not do basic Probability in maths at school?

The quality in Serie A isn't nearly as poor as some people like to make out IMHO, its not up to the standards of the big 3 leagues but its by no means bad to watch. You would have thought that with Juve coming back somewhat there might be more competition at the top but Inter have declined badly by their standards, somewhat negating this. There have been a few teams that have been flashes in the pan as well, notably Palermo who nearly got CL a couple of years ago and have now been relegated. Crowd numbers, particularly away from home are a problem as has been well documented. But I think that this is a similar problem with the Spanish league - the traditional powerhouses have support clubs all over Italy, apparently Juve alone have the support of around 29% of Italian football fans, or something like that.

THAT SAID there is definitely a perception that domestic football in Italy is stagnating somewhat, so if I were a player looking for a big move ahead of a home world cup I don't think I'd be looking there as a priority.

Gascoigne was advised many times not to go to Lazio but he still went despite bankruptcy or not and yes I had forgotten that. You really think that I drone? I'm speechless notso because I'd forgotten all about that too. Basic probability I don't think can be applied to two players of a similar appearance holding the same positions in their club and country scoring in more or less exactly the same spot in two matches spread over 20 years or so to put their club ahead in the same competition and in the same city and with the same final result with the winners being scrambled in both cases. Still nobody can prove anything either way,it's all just belief and opinion. However I had my say and in all my time on this site some have agreed with me and some have disagreed, these things even themselves out (Hee hee hee)

<laugh> stop being so sensitive Thor!

What you've pointed does have a bit of spookiness about it, but there are these weird 'occurances' in all sorts of things, and I use the word occurance as used in Probability! <ok>

Yes I stated in a previous post that these occurrences appear elsewhere. So you admit there is a bit of spookiness about it? Also about England and Germany hitting the bar,the ball bouncing down, one goal given when it shouldn't and one goal not given when it should? It evened itself out between England and Germany didn't it? Germany were robbed in 66 and England were robbed in return a couple of years ago. Now whether you believe that these things are coincidences or not is a matter of personal opinion. Holland reaching the final in the world cup in South Africa and the Boers being mainly Dutch is more than just a coincidence for me,all of them are.

If memory serves me right, Gazza missed a season or so with ruptured cruciate ligaments before he signed for Lazio. I think Spurs were cashing in on a player who might not have been as good as he was before the injury - and apart from a frolic in Scotland, he wasn't.

No it's not just belief and opinion. There are many people who can prove it either way - they are called statisticians and believe me they do indeed prove that remarkable coincidences are likely to occur. Fair enough you might not understand it. I don't understand how brain surgery works but I don't say that all neurology just comes down to personal beliefs and opinions.

(I was referring to the colour of the pill, BTW - just to clarify).

The fact that my cock is blue is a matter for another forum elsewhere.

IIRC he was going to Lazio anyway and the injury delayed it a year.

Okay Lenny give me the odds of what I posted about Leeds v the Glasgow clubs happening. What stats can prove this bit of spookiness as notso put it?

The deal was lined up before that FA Cup Final when he did his knee. I remember naively wondering at the time if he'd injured himself on purpose so the deal would fall through and he could stay at Spurs. Ah the wonderful naivity of youth in thinking that a player would do their ACL just to stay at Spurs!

He certainly was a man possessed that day - it was a bit odd. He should have been sent off twice, never mind carried off on a stretcher.

The stats which take into account all the clubs that play each other in all competitions, factoring in all hair colours and all scorelines and all scorers. Once you realise that you're talking about potentially millions of factors it is no surprise that there are these anomalies. The point is that yes - it might be a million-to-one chance that your exact scenario happens but a) when a million (or even half a million) things happen it's likely that you'll see you million-to-one shot happen and b) you have retrospectively cherry-picked Glasgow and Leeds. The chances of it happening to those particular cities is less than just the probability of it happening to any two cities (say Edinburgh and Liverpool) but since these coincidences have not yet occured in Hearts v Liverpool and Hearts v Everton you've ignored them. But if it had happened to a London team and a Parisian team then that would have been the "spooky" pattern that you see.

Like I said with the lottery - very, very, very, very, very unlikely that I'll win (just like it's very, very, very, very unlikely that your Leeds/Glasgow thing will happen). Chances that someone somewhere wins? Almost certain. So with your example it's like saying that the likelihood of some team from some city playing some other team from some other city within a timeframe of several decades and the scorelines being the same and the scorers looking similar are likely relatively high indeed when you consider the amount of football played in all those decades.

It's interesting and diverting, the thing you mention about Leeds/Glasgow but it is totally, utterly explainable.

What? What if it turns green? Um...see it's not for me - I've got a friend and he's a bit worried is all. And I'd, I mean he'd like to know.

If its going green you should stop making it angry. You won't like it when it's angry.
