The Belgium international has been heavily linked with a £10m switch to Liverpool in recent days, with the Reds thought to be closing in on a deal for the shot-stopper. Mignolet was one of Sunderland’s standout performers in a difficult season at the Stadium of Light as the 25-year-old’s performances helped keep the Black Cats in the Premier League. However, Kristof Vandersmissen says Sunderland have not informed him of any interest from Liverpool or any other English club – and insists that his client would be happy to stay at the Stadium of Light if an offer failed to materialise. “Simon played terrific last season. He has already proven that he is doing well in the Premier League. “If you go to a club that is higher in the rankings then there is a lot of good goalkeepers, so you have to go into competition with them.” Vandersmissen also insisted the shot-stopper would be happy to continue his good relationship Sunderland and their fans. “Simon was always happy at Sunderland.
