I just saw this evil perverted bastard gets the princely sum of 15 ****ing months prison <doh> for 14 sexual attacks on girls as young as 9 years old.

Some of the victims may well be mentally scarred for life and this ****er gets approx ONE MONTH for each of his sickening crimes.

I imagine the legal system in an Islamic state like Saudi Arabia would have made sure the punishment fits the crime. Unlike the lily-livered judicial system over here. Sorry, but I find this shocking - and I have no children of my own, either <grr> (Apologies for the rant, but I'm livid)

Jeffrey Archer and Johnathan Aitken both served 2 years for perverting the course of justice and yet Stuart Hall gets 15 months for being a pervert! Glad to see the courts have got their priorities right! <steam>

I don't disagree with you, but to clarify this - any sort of crime that interferes with justice (contempt of court, perverting the course of justice, etc) is given a very heavy sentence. This is deliberate - people need to take justice seriously and therefore punishments are punitive.

I understand that but are we as a supposedly civilised society really saying that abusing a child is less serious than lying in court?

No, we are saying that lying in court is punished in a way that is incomparable with any other crime. I.e., by picking lying in court, you are not using a fair comparative - better to compare child abuse with other sorts of crimes that merit 15 months sentences or just simply say that you feel the punishment should be longer than 15 months (which I agree with).

The trouble is that regardless of what party governs our country whether by birth-right or not, they are all woolly minded liberal thinking middle/upper class types. This despicable bastard should be locked away at least 20 years IMO and while I'm on my soap box when it is proved beyond any reasonable doubt that someone has commited murder, I'm all for bringing back the death penalty. It ****ing amazes me that someone can commit murder yet can sometimes be considered for parole after just 15 years !! <grr> The whole judicial system is a joke and it wouldn't surprise me if it were corupt too, come the revolution !!!!!!!

Fifteen years? Some of the bastards are out after seven years! OK lifers are only ever released on licence so the least bit of trouble they can be sent down again, but their victims don't have that privilege! <steam> Life should mean LIFE!

I agree, I remember the last time the MP's had a free vote on whether to bring back capital punishment, my MP was Kenneth Carlisle, he wrote in the local paper, The Lincolnshire Echo, that he couldn't find it in his heart to vote for something so barbaric!

I wrote to him, pointing out that he had been elected to carry out the wishes of his constituents, not his own!

Bastard never bothered to reply! Typical Tory!

I don't know the in's and out's of the case but 15 months, probalby in a Cat C prison to serve maybe 7 months for child abuse does seem insane. I would imagine that he made a deal with the authorities to elicit a guilty appeal as I getting sufficient proof to convict after all this time would be difficult for the CPS.

To be fair Dave the majority of Tories would vote for Capital punishment! It is the lilly livered softy socialists that are to blame for the current penal mess <ok>

The deal at the time was that the death penalty would be abolished and would be replaced by the solemn promise that a life sentence would mean a life sentence!

House of Commons voted by 200 votes to 98 in 1965 on a free vote.

    I think we have about 650 MP's.

What did the other 350 do.Sit on the fence again.
