Turner was worth more than £4m of anyones money actually. Then again you rate Matt Kilgallon so your no judge anyways.
Post any link you like, they're all 'believed to be' bollocks. We'd been relegated, we were tens of millions in a debt and we had an owner who didn't have a pot to piss in. We had no money to spend, zilch, **** all, we brough in five players at the start of that season, four free agents and Simpson for £50k. Believe it, or don't believe it, I really could give a ****, it will remain a fact.
To us he was worth much more, but it wasn't a ridiculously low fee as we all thought at the time, the fee was double what Sunderland got for him when they flogged him to Norwich.
Didn't he only have a year of his contract to go when they sold him to Norwich whereas he'd signed a new contract with us the season before we sold him to Sunderland. Before we sold him he was at the top of his game whereas he'd had a lot of injuries at Sunderland.
All true, but he remain's our record player sale, £4m isn't cheap for a central defender from an unfashionable club. We only paid £1m more for a highly rated goal scoring midfielder who'd just been in the England squad. It was very disappointing at the time and we all felt he was worth more, but it wasn't a ridiculously low fee.
Plus it was £4m due to the structure of the payment, It was all up front. I imagine had we been in a position to accept installments and add ons then the fee would have been higher.
To be honest, on reflection, I think 4 million was a very fair fee. At the time I was mortified and thought we'd been robbed, but we was never worth £8mil. He's a very competent centre half at the highest level but no world beater. £4mil was good business, but just done at the wrong time.
Both The Express and The Sun have us going for Mark Schwarzer. http://www1.skysports.com/transfer-centre/papertalk I wont make a thread about it, as PLT will move it to the non-city transfer thread anyway
I think we could have comfortably got £6m for him, had we been in the position to accept installments and add ons. He's a great defender, but I don't think Sunderland helped his career. He was more valuable to us, as I genuinely believe had we not sold him, we would or could have avoided relegation. Sonko FFS.
Well yeah he was, and we could maybe have got more if someone really wanted him. But I'd say from a non rose tinted viewpoint, 4 mil was a fair reflection of his ability, and 6 mil would have been that bit extra to get us to sell if we didn't want to. Point is I don't think he was in such demand as it took til the end of the window before he went when we offered him to Sunderland at market value, so I don't think we'd have got much more for him.
We had no money at the time, there's no way we could have afforded anything like that kind of cash up front. We were about to be liquidated at any moment. We even lost 4-0 at the New Den at one point, it got that bad. Spot on.
Looks to be joining Barnsley: http://www1.skysports.com/football/...Barnsley-enter-chase-for-winger-Dale-Jennings
Daily Mail are reporting that we've put in a bid of £4m for Pantilimon...also saying Shay Given wanted £80k a week to join Hull City...well he can **** right off for that. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...hester-City-goalkeeper-Costel-Pantilimon.html Also just noticed the web address, seems like the people at the Daily Mail cannot spell for ****
Better than Barnsley. SSN saying that Huddersfield Town are on the verge of signing Dale Jennings with Barnsley trying to hijack the deal. Dont knock Leeds. They helped us into the PL you know. £80k a week after a reported £5m pay off from Aston Villa ? Nobody will pay that to Mr telly tubby. He can sit on the bench for a 3rd season imo the greedy b'stard. Given is either on drugs, is pissed or has been out in the hot birmingham sunshine far too long.
A twitter rumour saturday afternoon from "cityshark" has Hull City moving closer to a deal with Burnleys Charlie Austin. Has added bite to it as Burnley look to snap our hands off. The hdm need to sink their teeth into this story further imo.
Nowhere does it say that Shay Given wanted £80k a week if he joined Hull City. It said: "Shay Given's £80,000-a-week wages at Aston Villa were deemed too much for newly-promoted Hull."
