I think you'd be safe wearing your McLaren shirt in Monza this year. <ok>

Think I might be able to get away with anything in Hungary :)

It also seems a bit of luck of the draw in Silverstone, I've been twice in general admission and both times ended up in the middle of a right mix of fans.

The day I knew F1 fans changed was when I heard the airhorns stop blowing around the track. You know the days where you would actually here tens of thousands of airhorns go off around the track the second the race would start or come to an end, like this:

I loved it when I went to Silverstone for the first time in 2005 to see Schumacher who was my favorite driver of the day back then. You would know in your head it was a joke to try and outdo the noise of the engines by the F1 drivers. I'll never forget the start at the old international straight having 20 v10's scream at full power for the start and us just holding about a thousand airhorns back at them trying to outdo them, it was deafening that it took my ears 2 weeks to stop ringing. I came back to Silverstone 5 years later and found to my sadness that it stopped, the atmosphere changed the magic was gone there and then IMO.

But maybe there is hope as 2012 has produced a grand mexican wave by some of the obvious old guard in their Jaguar caps who I dearly thank.

Sadly I think the diehards like that stick more with Le Mans and Nurburgring than F1 nowadays because of the pricing that it has been filled by the newer f1 generation and I think I'm only short by a few years doing the same. F1 has become..... TOO PRODUCT in my opinion a bit fake etc... and only just now I can understand from the standpoint of the F1 race marshals; ((who are more into motorsport than I'll ever be and will forgot more about F1 than I'll remember ever)) during my short period as one, that there are much better series' than F1 to get involved with and they don't treat you like crap.

It's a bit like the lower league football players that still visit the public out of matches and say hi to any person down the street. Sadly I think all sport has become detached from society and I think F1 has entered that now.

I think what I'm saying is Silverstone is great but Spa gives me that 2005 feeling I once enjoyed back in the day with the old F1 fans. And if FOM ever drops it I will never buy a F1 ticket again it's simple as that.

Do yourself a favour, forget Silverstone, come to Spa and see what it's really like and you'll see what I mean.

One word: "OLDSCHOOL"

The tales of Silverstone sadden me greatly... I hope the atmosphere truly isn't leaving. I was there to enjoy the days of post race track invasions and a crowd that was among the best in the world. F1 was a little more niche back then though.

Ha! Since I was here earlier today, I feel like saying thanks to everyone as well as having a good old chuckle with every subsequent contribution! I also feel some inexplicable (and wholly ridiculous) guilt about Silverstone; but want to express a personal regret that things are perceived in this way, in this country, about our home Grand Prix. I swear that if there was/is anything I could do as an individual trying to resist what I see as an overpowering establishment, to improve matters, I would/will as far as is humanly possible, within me. I should also confess that all too often I question my ability to make a significant, lasting impression upon the status quo. Nonetheless, I sincerely hope things will gradually change for the better; just as I presume everyone else does…

And in the electronic sense of an internet forum, I'd like to buy everyone a metaphorical 'pint' to share in these thoughts that things will improve, and that motor racing will eventually overcome the resistance I feel it faces from the establishment in the UK.
:emoticon-0167-beer:Cheers all.

Thanks for still letting me feel this is the best M-R forum in the UK. Despite its relatively small membership (albeit with 'passing trade' that I feel might be nurtured), it seems to me to represent a healthy cross section of views, and to be pretty well tolerated by those with opposing views. I should add that I think this is a rare thing, and I think it's a very good thing: something which is a real credit to the moderation team, despite my reservations about some minor things! – Then again, I'll admit to being an insufferable perfectionist, as I'm sure many will have already realised whilst still tolerating me*.

;)
Thanks again (to Mods and every member) for making me want to keep checking what's being said on this site, almost every time I get a free moment to peruse th
e internet!

Captain, that is a superb and passionate post which rings true in giant volume. Mega-thanks for voicing your opinion in this way.

P.S. I tried to give you major 'Rep' but once again find the system utterly useless, such that it will not allow me. Suffice to say that I am both impressed and grateful to see such a genuine statement. Comments such as this have the potential to reach far flung places they were never intended for.

Once again: thanks.

<grr> I was there too, but I was supporting Kimi, and Schumacher ruined his race. He had a 10 place grid penalty and was making light work of his recovery until he caught Schumacher, it must've taken him about 20 laps to get by.

Back in the days when budgets were less restricted I saw Schumacher hit the back of a rival; (like Webber did with Seb last year) so he would speed up entering the pits.

Found it highly amusing how much of a twat he could act and get away with back in those days.

Sorry to get back on topic, but i have a funny feeling Toyota will win it this year. I know Audi have won both rounds of the WEC so far, but i trust my gut.

My educated guess for class winners are;

Toyota #8 (Davidson, Sarrazin, Buemi) for LMP1
OAK Racing #35 (Baguette, Plowman, Gonzales) for LMP2

Aston Martin #97 (Mucke, Turner, Dumbreck) for GTE-Pro
Aston Martin #95 (Simonsen, Nygaard, Poulsen) for GTE-AM

How bad is the Corvette this year? Even with the always awesome Olly Gavin at the wheel, they're nowhere in the GTE-pro class. Got beat by the GTE-Am #95 Aston

Yep! Then again, I have a soft spot for every Aston I see. I spend a lot of time in the USA and always have fun when Astons clash with American 'muscle'.

A more predictable result up ahead…

(It's also a peculiar thing that AM can stand for Aston Martin, Am-erican and Am-ateur!)
