The only thing making Pepe better is experience and distribution. Distribution will be less of an issue playing in a team that plays it out from the back. It's his kicking that's the problem. He still makes silly mistakes but that's expected from young goalkeepers. In terms of shot stopping and one on ones he's as good as any of the top keepers in the world. And he's developing like an express train.
pretty sure SSN said he wanted away yesterday and tbh who can blame him. Being kept out of the Belgium side by a 20 yr old, fair enough Chelsea and on loan ro Athletico Madrid and he does look a good keeper but Chelsea/Ath Madrid - Sunderland now whether Chelsea/Ath Madrid - Liverpool would make a lot of difference i dont know but those that are saying Sunderland-Liverpool are similar and a sideways step want their bleeding head looking at. Liverpool havnt been fighting releagation and promotion to the PL for the best part of 40 years, Liverpool have 19 titles (or close to that) albeit the last one was years ago they still have a very rich history and its still a hell of a lot better than ours. If he goes good luck to the lad, and 10 million for a keeper is a lot of cash, especially one that isnt even number 1 for his national side.
10MILL tell them to shove it . He is worth a hell of a lot more to us. Lets see how much LFC want him drag it out until they come up with a offer we really cant refuse .Hope he stays because he is a class keeper who is going to get better and better . Football isnt just about scoring goals its also about preventing them . Would we be happy that we are selling a top class striker because we will be getting a good return would we **** as like .I am not saying that anybody on here would be happy because we are making a profit on him but it seems like because its a keeper its not that big a deal because we have or could get a decent replacement . Well bollicks to that thought keep him at all cost even if he runs his contract down and leaves on a free . Not that I think he would do that . He seems like an honest guy to me and will leave 1 day but not yet .Get a new contract signed and if he wants to leave in a couple of years while we are still treading water fine .I reckon it is to early to be cashing in on him yet . I know everyone has his price his should be in the region of £16 -£18 mill . If nobody wants to pay that then good **** off then . If he has another good season then we could up his value again . So I say noooooooooooooooo dont sell him .
Totally agree with the sentiment, guess its going to show our financial hand, i hope he stays, new contract out of the blue and blow the whole thing out of the water
I would tell Liverpool we want 15m or **** off. If PDC gets us playing next season migs could sign a new deal and stay.
Look what happened with phillips. he put in 3 transfer requests. Leeds in the middle of that lot offered 20 million for him We said no We got relegated and he went for 2 million or so. Sometimes you just have to say thankyou for everything and you can go with our blessing even if most dont like the idea at all.
No offence mate, but if he is leaving I'm surprised it is not to a bigger club than Liverpool! He is a top keeper, and I for one will be sad to see him leave..
Best keeper in the league, currently. £10mil is a lot of money, but £15mil should be the starting point. If no one matches it, we keep hold of a top top player who is HAPPY HERE.
Doesn't he only have two years left on his contract? If so then you'd be better to sell now because in 12 months time you'd be lucky to get 6-8 million for him. I mean look at Gary Hooper at Celtic, they turned down 9 million from Norwich in January because they wanted 12 million, he's now got 12 months left on his contract and his valuation is being estimated between 4-6 million. Or Douglas at Twente, last season they wanted 5 million for him instead of the 3 million we offered, they've now lost him for nothing.
This is exactly why a new contract with a buyout clause is a must, can still see it happening mind, hopefully
Maybe a three year deal, to give you a little bit of security with a buy out of 14 - 16 million or a buy out of say 12 million but only to a club qualified for the champions league (as these generally have an established number one so you'd be a less risk of these bidding whilst also not pricing him out of a dream move). It's only right that teams not qualified for champions league pay a bit more in my opinion as you'd essentially be selling to a rival. Also with a three year deal it gives Mignolet 12 months to see where PDC is taking you as a club and if you progress and challenge for Europe next year he could then sign a long extension.
Regarding the debate as to whether the deal is done or not. I think it is, or will be shortly, hence the reason Westwood has not asked for a move after dropping strong hints a few weeks ago that he would. I would suggest he has been promised his chance now. IMO someone from within the club has told him to hang on knowing the Mig deal was in the offing. As for the timing of the deal, I don't think the club has too many options regarding the length of contract and the wage structure of the club. If it's true that the bidding started at £6m but is now £10m then the club have done a good deal. Good luck to the lad anyway.
No but it means the player and the buying club have more power in the negotiations that you as there's a risk he goes for much cheaper in 12 months. Given his age and ability he's probably worth 15-18 million. However because of his contract situation the price should be around 10-12 million which is what is being mooted.
But if he won't sign a contract what's the sense in selling him in june? He'll be on other clubs radars too, We need to give other teams the chance to move players about and free up capital to create a bidding war. there's two and a half months left till the window closes. I want him to stay but it won't be the end of the world if he goes. It's the manner in which he could be going that's bothering me.
Well I looked through the recent posts & couldn't see the topic mentioned so posted the thread, which starts with sorry if this has been posted already. If that's still not enough for you then the option to read the thread is optional. This is a football forum isn't it?
Problem is that keepers generally don't move late in the window (unless they're a number two) as nearly all managers will want to have their number one keeper in early to work with the back four and it's harder to sign another teams first choice keeper as they the have to sign another teams first team keeper and so on and so forth. With outfield players it's different as there's so many more out there so these deals can happen right up until the last minute of the window, that's how I see it anyhow.
