MOOORRRRRRNNNNNIIIING Just opening this thread here to spread the word. The 1881 has been formed by Roy MOORE in response to the fact that we the Watford fans dont do atmosphere very well. Roy has been to the club and arranged a block of seats in the South West Corner of The Rookery stand (this is to start the group, when the East Stand is built we will have grown and hopefully can secure a larger area). A website has been formed www.the1881.com. Meetings have been taking place to secure merchandise hoodies, t - shirts, cups, and such like, these hopefully will go on sale, a company has expressed a desire to design a huge watford banner for the front of the rookery. There was a radio performance to promote the new area and to try and agree on a Watford anthem (although as you can all see this is still up in the air). Im meeting with Roy tonight with ideas for how to progress with songs, old and new. There is also talk of maybe marching to the ground from an agreed area, this will help to drum up support and promote this area and group. If you fancy coming to the area then contact Roy and lets get this going. [email protected] is the address to e mail Roy he will contact the club on your behalf. I/Roy/We are fed upo with a lack of atmosphere at Watford im fed up with being lil ole watford, we arent that club anymore we are on the up, and im also fed up with excuses, there are no excuses, we were able to sing v Leeds and Leicester so we can do it all season.
MY 100% SUPPORT TO THIS AND TO ALL INVOLVED I don't get to the Vic so often and am old.... but I always like to sing and be lifted by others singing...which is so good at away games.... so well done
I will organise buying some of the merchandise. My friends in England can buy something for me and I will repay them.
Its on todays Official website aswell, the club are fully behind this.,........ Lets all get fully behind this
Good on Roy for taking it on himself to do something like this, massive respect to that man. Good to see that the club is getting involved to. Hopefully Watford fans respond in kind and we start to improve the atmosphere. Sadly cant get to many matches due to university commitments, but I wish them all the best.
I echo the sentiments of the above posts , we might not get to the Vic often but we sure as hell can support this venture
Having the Pozzo's as owners and Zola as manager does not suddenly mean we are no longer a small club, we still are a small club, lets not get ahead of ourselves now.
Agreed Mitch, but if last season is anything to go by, you are a small clup heading in the right direction!
Mitch like it or not lil ol watford are growing and inevitably so will expectation ,this is where we have fallen before ,but under Zola and the pozzos I think we will be ok , look at st sales nearly 2000 or 20% up on last year already! the CEO has stated a 15k target for a new east stand which will house more "noisy" hornets which can only spur our team on in the future whoever is wearing the yellow I say again usually I am a pessimist , but what is happening now is very very exciting,First time for 30 odd years we are on the up financially, football wise and I dare to add spritually in the local community , there is now a buzz again which has been absent for far too long.
Of course we will no longer a small club Mitch and by some measures, we will never be a "big" club - but at least be positive about moves to make us a better club! Progress has to start somewhere and this is progress. If we can start a concerted effort to improve the atmosphere (and you have certainly pointed out the lack of it) at The Vic, then it's progress. If we can get the increased crowds more vocal and behind the team it's a better day out for all of us. At least give it some support with a few positive words now and again!
The club are truly behind this movement. This is what they put in their confirmation of season ticket purchase email
Me too to the first bit and I completely agree with the second. Can't wait for the fixtures, then the signings, then the pre season and then the season proper.
We finished 3rd last season yet our average home attendance was just 11,000 or so, that is what you call a small club!! Middlesbrough, Hull and Blackburn are medium sized clubs, all considerably bigger clubs than ourselves.
we don't need to be a 'big' club to create an atmosphere Mitch. We are sadly lacking in the noise department and this movement, and Roy in particular, is working so hard to get this club and our fans to support the team on the pitch. If we do our bit, they will have to respond...it's what was lacking at Wembley and i still maintain that with better support we could very well have won that match. Deeney was begging for noise from the fans, and all we did was sit there like lemons! Now is the time to get this up and running....and it's fantastic to see fellow fans and the club behind it!
Superb effort to try and get more noise but can it happen? Certainly in the rookery the 1881 crowd can make a difference but in other places like the lower Rous it's just not gonna happen, the coffin dodgers will see to that. Hopefully when the new stand is eventually built new and younger people will have access to games thereby filling the ground with more noise.
If they can afford to go ofcourse which is the key... Its great to have people creating an improved atmosphere to help the team but you have to encourage them to come which some of the football on the pitch did last season.
Blimey Yorkie were there to sing not raise the bloody dead seriously there will be seats allocated to 1881 in the lower rous part of the 496 that have been put aside , we already have in excess of 200 still a lot of time to persuade more folk to join
