Then why are there 600,000 New Zealanders living in Australia who have come here for a better life? http://theconversation.com/tougher-...zealanders-wanting-to-work-in-australia-12007
Ive not got an opinion either way on this particular argument but that's ridiculous. Every single free country in the world has emigration as well as immigration. It's about personal preferences. I can guarantee thousands of Australians have moved to another country in search of 'a better life'.
Well I cant disagree with any of that but the burning question for me is what sort of person moves to another country thousands of miles away WITHOUT VISITING IT FIRST TO SEE IF YOU LIKE IT? A ****ing moron that's who.
Here's one about the concerns over all the Aussies emigrating to NZ... http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/663033/Fleeing-Aussies-opt-to-live-in-NZ
Lots more Poles moved to the UK than British moved to Poland. I bet more Romanians will move to the UK than British move to Romania. I'm sure it's not because the UK is nicer than Poland or Romania. Don't quote me on the above!
I know a couple of people who went away to Oz for 6 months or a year at a go. Basically pissed around doing the odd job here and there, worked in bars, got drunk etc. An extended holiday if you will. Then they come back to Britain where it's raining and say "It's a better life in Australia" and try to go back. The point I'm making is I think slightly thick people get confused between pissing it up in Oz for a year and actually making a life there. Is Australia really going to be a better standard of living than Britain? Is it really? The weather is nicer...I'd say we're further along than Australia myself though. This is Britain FFS. It's as if people think we're Somalia or something and life is really tough...
I know a girl who has precisely just done this, moving from London to Sydney. A few months after moving there she declared that "Australians are actually really ****ing boring people" and the 'party reputation' is a myth. She's just moved back.
I have been here in Oz 5 years now and find there are things both good and bad in both countries. The cost of living is certainly a lot higher here, but on the flip side wages are a lot higher. House prices are a lot more than in the UK. This wasn't the case up till about 6 years ago (My timing has always been good !). The good things here in Brisbane (different for other parts), weather, work, beaches. the crap things, cost of everything, rednecks, driving skills. Obviously there will be other things but i can't think what they are. As for the numb nuts who moved back after 2 weeks, i am still trying to work out what visa they entered the country on??? I had a skilled visa and had to get enough points to get in, not sure what they had, but i have never seen fork truck drivers on any skills required list, or recruitment agents..... Maybe half of the story is being missed out here. I have to agree about NZ being a nicer place than Oz, but thats only scenery wise, there is no work there really, which is why i work with loads of Kiwis who all moved for work and money, with many intending returning later on in life. I wouldn't mind having a stint over there in the next few years, not sure how i will get back into the cold weather again though.
I do actually. I have a an acquaintance (I wouldn't call him a friend) who I previously shared a house with. He is a recruitment agent and got his visa piece o' piss and moved to Sydney about 5 years ago. They're crying out for them apparently.
Mate, your link was dated FIVE YEARS AGO! The situation is different now. Recent changes have meant that Kiwi's have to take out citizenship before they can claim benefits here so if they fall out of work they are cactus. Many are returning and many have been left stranded. Things are tight here with the welfare with thousands still pouring in. Detention centres for illegal immigrants are overloaded. Still they come. Yet another boat capsized recently with the loss of some 90 lives (I believe). Moves are being made to tow these boats back to Indonesian waters but the Indonesian Government will not agree. With an Election coming up shortly both Major Parties are frantically trying to find a solution that will solve the problem but at the same time gain votes.
But 5 years ago the list was a lot longer than it is now, and even what i came in on would now not allow me to move to a major city only to rural areas. Although saying that, the skills i now have would get me in on another route. If you look at the current list there is no recruitment mentioned on it. They will have come in quite legitimately but i would hazard a guess it will not be a permanent residence visa. There are all sorts of Visa though which get you in, so maybe they had a lot of money or a business to buy into. http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/transitional/occupations-in-demand.htm
I don't think so mate. Many have moved but the majority would be young people looking for a 'different' kind of life. When we visited Scotland for instance, in 1998, we walked from our hotel to a little pub down the road and lo and behold the barman was a young bloke from Sydney. He told me that once you qualified and/or had Barman experience you could get a job almost anywhere in the world. He's been in London for a while, Ireland, through England and after Scotland was planning to move through Europe. Great life for him.
I'm aware of that and I've never been to Oz or NZ, so don't really have an opinion either way, I was just showing that you can usually find an article that backs up either side of an argument.
What is? Are you suggesting I made that up or that the girl is wrong? Why the **** would i make that up? That was her opinion, she's entitled to it. I have no opinion myself, I haven't been there. Edit - oh I see your joke. Very amusing.
The original pair are so ****ing dumb - even the point about their kid's favourite squash lol - you can get any British product you want if you open your eyes... Having said that, why they chose Adelaide is beyond me - it wouldn't be many people's first choice in this fine country... As for the cost of living - I can confirm Sydney is very ****ing expensive. When I arrived it was relatively cheap - now everything costs a fortune (apart from the beautiful beaches and weather of course - they are free....)
Yeah, I didn't see it. On my iPhone it doesn't bold up the bit he was drawing attention to for his joke.
