Sorry if its been discussed already but looks a dead cert he's off to Liverpool according to most papers including the echo. For £10 mil should we be happy or would you rather he stayed. Will beef up PDC spending power?
10m is a good price for mignolet especially since we have a class keeper in Westwood, not sure Liverpool is the right club for him but I wish him well, let's sign Sorenson as back up to Westwood
I'd be gutted to see Ming go. He is now a top keeper and it would have been nice to see him play under this seasons revolution.
It'll be sad to see him go, but the minute the big clubs started sniffing around it was only a matter of time before the bid would be high enough for the club to accept. Mig has done us proud and we will make a substantial profit on him, which is I'm not mistaken will be a British record transfer fee for a goalkeeper. Westwood is more than capable of stepping up to the plate as our first choice keeper, so I am perfectly relaxed about the situation. If he does go, best of luck to him!
I would like to see the spine of the team retained but money talks. We are going down the same route as the mags with transfers & every player has its price. I just hope we don't change the whole team at the start of the season, it will be too much.
Why would he go to Liverpool? Okay they have a great history, but now and in the future they are not going anywhere, albeit they are a tier above us, but they are not and are not likely to break into the top tier of the Premier League. £10m does not seem enough although my guess is his wages will increase. Everyone is saying Westwood is his replacement but as the fella has not played much we can only hope he is as good, we do not know.
LIVERPOOL are winning the race to sign Sunderland keeper Simon Mignolet and the Black Cats’ Player of the Season could be Anfield-bound within days. Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has made the Belgian stopper one of his top targets of the summer, but faced potential competition from Arsenal who are also involved in a summer of rebuilding, with Gunners’ boss Arsene Wenger given a massive war-chest to transform the London side into title contenders. Liverpool are looking to do their transfer business early this summer and made an opening bid of £6.5m hoping to do an early deal, while Arsenal made their interest known but have yet to take that further. Sunderland rejected Liverpool’s offer out of hand for a player who was pivotal in keeping the club in the Premier League last season. But the Reds have not been dissuaded and have tabled several improved offers, rising to £8m early this week. Yesterday, the Merseysiders were prepared to go to £9m, but Sunderland are holding out for a fee in excess of £10m for a player Steve Bruce paid £2m for, three years ago this week. Now it looks like Liverpool have accepted Sunderland’s valuation. And with the Reds prepared to pay a fee which the Black Cats’ believe approaches the keeper’s market value, Mignolet appears on his way to Anfield. Arsenal could always step in with an 11th hour bid, but their are no immediate signs on an intervention from the Emirates and, that being the case, the deal to take Mignolet to Liverpool is on. The club’s hottest property has been the subject of intense speculation since the end of the season and talks on an extension to his contract at the Stadium of Light, which still has two years to run, had stalled as the player and his agents considered their options. Mignolet’s chief agent, Guy Vandersmissen, said earlier this month that the keeper would not ask for a move but that the ball was firmly in Sunderland’s court. “There is a contract so we have to respect that, but I don’t think at this moment we would be prepared to sign a new contract,” commented Vandersmissen. “There is another two years on his contract, if they want us to stick to that, we will stick to that and perhaps leave after two years if there is an interest in Simon.” Sunderland though would not want the 25-year-old, whose reputation grew by the month in the Premier League last season, to leave on a Bosman in a couple of years time. And it will be hard for the Black Cats to reject a particularly big offer which would give Paolo Di Canio room for manoeuvre under the financial fair play restrictions and allow him to strengthen other areas of the team. Mignolet’s exit could see top-quality understudy, Republic of Ireland keeper Keiren Westwood, promoted to number one with England Under 19 goalkeeper moving up to number two. That remains the most likely option, although Di Canio could also look to bring in a replacement for Mignolet which will still leave him the bulk of the transfer fee, or even look to bring in another keeper as Westwood’s number two. What is clear though is that Mignolet will not be going anywhere unless Sunderland receive an acceptable offer and Liverpool appear to have accepted that valuation as they urgently seek a genuine replacement for Kop cult hero Pepe Reina, who is now expected to leave this summer. Mignolet has been happy at the Stadium of Light since joining the club from St Truiden three years this week. But he is desperate to oust Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtis as Belgian number one before the 2014 World Cup finals and knows that a good move would improve his chances. The Sunderland keeper had an excellent season just gone and was absolutely pivotal in keeping the Black Cats in the top flight by the skin of their teeth, thanks to many points saving performances over the course of the campaign. But he knows that a move to a higher profile stage will enhance the international prospects which mean so much to him.
I'm abit disappointed we couldn't get more for him. He's better than De Gea in my opinion and he cost 18m. He's still got potentially another 15 years ahead of him in the top flight!
I would be gutted if our Belgian Keeper left. I've never been sure why people are so sure of Westwood - he doesn't seem the tallest to me and lets be honest we've seen very little of him since he signed. Mignolet must have gained us a fair few points over the last few years - surely a move to Liverpool is a sideways step...he's not going to win the league with them.
I don't think Westie has ever WANTED to go mate, he was signed to be number 1 but MIg became undroppable. I'll be sad for Mig to go, always the case when a top class player leaves, but I think Westie, well we all think Westie will be an excellent number 1 for us. It has to be more than £10million though, for an already world class 24 year old.
Gutted if he goes to the bin-dippers for £10m, however, having mulled over this with my cupper, i have concluded that £10m is a canny bit, westwood is class and our england international pickford should not be sniffed at, we should go for friedel as back up and to bring them on. Also think pecs idea of £8m + downing is spot on If we do accept £10m from the wheel cap pinchers then i would expect arsenal to trump it
I don't believe it, it's bollocks! he's not back at training yet. I'm not entertaining the notion that we've accepted a bid for him when we haven't even sat down with the player. It's still paper talk. Even if he does leave, can't see it being this side of July, it's just not logical.
If he does go I for one wont be applauding him when he returns to play against us. It sickens me that they come from nowhere make their name then want to leave for so called bigger clubs. No loyalty whatsoever. #****ers
The only legs it has so far is that there's interest in the player, that's it. Not saying he won't leave. but it's only June. It's feels like the transfer window is in an advance stage because we've been so busy with free agents. but it's very early days. If I'm wrong I'll hold my hands up but I won't be impressed with SAFC due to a shoddy bit of business. There's no merit in selling our best player mid June whatsoever, esp at 10 m with two years still to run.
Don't think he wants to go has always said he wants to stay but if the price is right for the club and the opportunity for the Mig (Which I don't think the Accusers are) then good luck to the lad.
