Seems some people prefer to listen to Z list comedians. All I see from atheism is NOTHING. Because they believe in nothing. All that is on offer is mockery.

Still waiting for an atheist thought of the day.

    Wait no more ...

Nothing such as: no inter-religion intolerance (can't even get along among yourselves for crying out loud); no inquisitions; no hypocritical dispensations (when is a rule not a rule - when money can be extorted); no systemic, global child molestation; and as a result - no central conspiracy to obstruct justice; no fatwahs; no suppression of intellectual curiosity, exploration and discovery; no lent or other pointless control structures; no repression of women in power-structures; no denial of natural history, anthropology, astronomy, or anything else as plain as day, real, tangible and virtually impossible for rational, educated people to deny .....

Let's build a list - this lot should get us started. It's a list of what we do not believe in.

And as far as beliefs go: all people are created equal; thou shalt not kill actually means no ****ing killing; freedom for people in all of its forms (this even means the freedom for the religious to be religious); ..... these are secular beliefs, i.e. the beliefs of atheists. They are simple, elegant, cost nothing to practice, and most importantly are inclusive, non-controlling, non-violent and non-discriminatory.

Let's build a list of these too.

Religion is today's in-vogue mythology nothing more and nothing less. They almost always consist of a supernatural entity that cannot be proven to exist - so convenient this. They have a suite of philosophies or commandments purported to come from the super natural entity but in reality come from people just like you and me driven by historical circumstances and events. And inevitably a power-political structure - the church or whatever you want to call it .... where two or more of us are gathered in somebody's name, some individual or group will almost always try to take charge, exert control and extort money.

If you're secular and you know it clap your hands <applause>.

"It never ceases to amaze me how seemingly intelligent people can be taken in by such palpable nonsense."

I have this "thought" - EVERY DAY.

Well said, Vetch. Incoming from PGF. <laugh>

YJ: Here it is, just for you: <applause>

PGF I have to say do you have me on Ignore? <laugh> You've asked for a 'thought for the day' ages ago and I've given plenty in this thread yet you're "still waiting"? Have a read of YJ's above. Plenty of thoughts there that'll last more than a day. <ok>

If you think that Mormonism is credible and deserves respect then I'm fine with that, though I'd be interested to know how you come to that conclusion if you know anything about how it was founded. Having done a fair bit of reading on the subject I respectfully don't agree. A particular religion doesn't deserve respect simply because it's called 'religion'.

Dinosaurs.....aren't they wonderful.....there is my thought, don't see anything about those in the good book. Oh wait, thats right, as has already been mentioned, they were not discovered until after the book was written. So, seeing as god made us all, on day 1 or whatever day it was, why did the good book not mention anything about dinosaurs?

    Your thoughts welcome.

I've always wondered how Noah managed to gather two pairs of each animal and keep them from ripping each other to pieces on his ark.

Talk is cheap Vetch, also fashionable, and some are more disposed to fear of man! I find the denial of purpose and design in nature and the Universe more contemptible than the Atheist's lack of conviction in the trenches!................<ok>

Do you know why you won't get an atheist on Thought For The Day? Because the BBC banned those without faith from the slot.

I do notice however that as people get older they begin to read ' Holy Scriptures ' more and more , this thought always perplexed me until I realised that they were possibly...............................................................swotting for final exams?

I would choose to read the telephone directory before "holy scriptures". At least there are real people in there.

You don't say, why am I not surprised! let's put your convenient Atheistic view to the test, order a couple of tone of bricks Vetch and have them delivered to the bottom of your garden, and let me know if they have constructed themselves into your Garden Summer house say in 50 years time? better still I'll give you 2 Million years, I'm all ears, let me know how they get on!...........<cheers>

So your argument for the existence of a God is that Summer houses can't build themselves. Brilliant!

What makes you think my Atheistic views are "convenient",Dragon.

I find it "convenient" that you post gobbledegook and don't expect to be challenged about it.

    Bricks,gardens,summer houses???
