Not really sure about this conflict but had a relation in the Irish Army and he went as a peace keeping force in the Lebannon, but the impression I'm getting is that the Israelies can do what they like and helped, smacks of cold war stuff i.e get in before the commies do but in this case they are using the Muslim threat to gain control in that region but really it's the oil they want, just saying

There are a range of reasons why the various actors are looking to get involved, il bullet point a few for most actors now. Make no mistake, Syria is one of the hottest territories to have influence over.

    - Qatar - A memorandum of understanding was signed, in 2012, between Iran, Iraq and Syria for construction of an oil and natural gas pipeline from Iran to the Med. This was a direct threat to the planned Qatar pipeline through Syria to Turkey. Both Turkey and Qatar stood to lose out on billions from this deal.

    - Turkey - See Qatar, also Turkey are part of a 4 way battle between themselves, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Iran for a dominant influence in the region. To knock out a steadfast ally of Iran would help them greatly.

    - Saudi Arabia - See Turkey for battle of influence. Also their intention to spread the Salafi doctrine throughout the Middle-East, a strong influence in the rebel movement.

    - Israel - looking to permanently claim the occupied Golan as their territory to secure freshwater source. Also have eyes on South Lebanon. Also the knocking out of an Iran friendly state whose air defences stand in the way of an airstrike of Iran is highly sought after. Lastly the fracturing of opposition to their presence in the region by way of sectarian war, like a passive divide and conquer. Zionism also sees the territory of Jordan, Syria and Lebanon as truely Israeli.

    - Russia - Syria comprises a big strategic and business interest. The port of Tartus is currently the only port Russian warm water naval base.

    - US - looking to secure Israeli interests but more importantly looking to assert total spectrum dominance on the region. This way they control oil resources in the region and negate Russian influence. As Henry Kissenger said, "control a country's food supply you control the people, control the energy supply you control the country". To do this they have to break the Shi'ite crescent they created through the imposition of a Shi'ite administration in Iraq.

-Egypt- See Turkey for battle of influence. Also strong Muslim Brotherhood presence in Syria.

-Britain/France - previous colonial interests in the region. Also paying lip service to Saudi intentions as they have become the main source of exports for the British and Fench defence industries.

    - Hezbollah - as the Saudi salafi clerics have stoked the sectarian nature of the conflict it has come to a battle for Shi'ite Hezbollah's survival against a rebel movement incresingly influenced by Sunni al Qaeda affiliated groups.

    ...did I miss anyone out?

It could be about to. I don't think Russia will allow Syria to go the same way as Libya. America may have, for all intents and purposes, declared war by proxy on Russia last night

    Yep.

Jacky (in common with many of his ilk from the hard left) can find a way to blame absolutely everyone, but especially the Americans and the Jews.

Yet he ignores the inconvenient fact that Muslims have been slaughtering each other on an industrial scale ever since the time of Mohammed.

It is not a zero sum game you. My personal opinion is that a state based on the Jewish Religion is just as ******ed as one based on the Muslim or Christian Religion - the organisation of an entire nation around some mental Voodoo.

    Schoolboy error.

Israel is the State for the Jewish people - not the Jewish religion.
