    If nobody is available who MON wants then don't see why we should buy someone just for the crack, I'm quite happy to wait until the summer to get the right man. Like many I think Graham is somebody who he wants and is available. We arnt going anywhere this season, knocked out of both cups and only league position to play for now, which is very disappointing in my opinion, suppose the derby is the only thing to look forward too.

    Our squad is smaller now than what it was before the window opened mate, MON has stated time and time again that it's one of the smallest in the league. We will undoubtebly be signing more players, be they stopgap loanees or permanent I know not, but its got to happen.

    As I said, unless he chooses to tell them, they are just guessing.

    On the 31st January, at 11pm, we will all know just who MoN was after.

    You doubt the press would lie - then how coem we haven't signed all these hundreds of players the press (including the echo) have linked us with??

    Poolie I'm certainluy not having a go but if Martin O'Neill stated that we are not after anyone why doesn't the report state:

    When asked about Mauroi Zarate and Paul Scharner, O'Neill stated "We are definitely not in for either player" instead of simply saying that Martin O'Neill advised that a deal isn't nearly complete for Scharner? That is not "We are not signing him" in my book

    It seems the 3 we are linked to these 2 and the Serb or whatever he is are all having problems with their managers, so why would MON risk them just so they can fall out all over again?
    Will believe any transfers when they are paraded in red and white with MON grinning like a Cheshire Cat next to them at the SOL.

    Do SAFC actually parade anybody? Do they have press conferences regarding new signings? I'm not saying that's wrong by the way. I do however expect more players coming in and am expecting at least 4.

    Zarate's agent: Sunderland? They would be a viable solution because it is a great club

    @SAFCsource
    Abel Hernandez's agent admits that there is interest from England for his client.

    @SAFCsource
    Sunderland and Liverpool are interested Luis Alberto.

    Can't take much more of this to be honest, too much excitement for one summer.

    If we get Zarate then I would cash in on Sess big time.

    We could potentially sell Sess for £8million, and have Rosina AND Zarate for a combined £3 million.

    Now, I love Sess, but if we ended up in that position, with some £5million banked, we'd have done great business.

    Add Hernandez, and we are really only short of wing backs.

    Dunno about that mate, Zarate isn't a massive step up on Sess, and unquestionably Sess has a better attitude.

    Facts are, throw in back up in Rosina and £5million, and it becomes a no brainer, the extra money can upgrade the striker and wing back targets.

    All highly unlikely, but a lovely potential position.

    After the recent signing of Modibo Diakite and the likely imminent arrival of Luis Pedro Cavanda, there could be a third player making the transition from the Stadio Olimpico to The Stadium Of Light, with the news that Sunderland may have resurrected their interest in Mauro Zarate.

    In an interview with Radio Sport Manà, Zarate's agent, Luis Ruzzi, spoke about his client's future and said his future could be with Paolo Di Canio's side;

    Sunderland? They would be a viable solution because it is a great club and the Premier League is very charming.

    He also said Velez Sarsfield, Zarate's first club, could be an option;

    There are other demands including that of Velez which would represent a welcome return for Mauro.

    So how likely is a move for Zarate?

    We were originally linked with him back in January under Martin O'Neill's reign, a link which eventually fizzled out when we set our sights on Danny Graham. We have been linked with the player on a regular basis since then but any move for Zarate has been complicated by the fact he is currently trying to get his contract annulled because of an alleged breach of the collective agreement by Lazio.

    The trial is scheduled to end on July 10, so any move is unlikely to happy until then, but whatever the result of the court case, he will almost certainly leave Lazio during this transfer window.

    However, it seems likely that the player will return to Argentina to play for Velez Sarsfield, as both Zarate;

    I want to play in Velez, I want to come back and win the title.

    and his brother, Roly;

    Mauro wants to go back to Argentina and Velez would be ideal.

    have admitted his desire to return to his first club. Although Mauro did leave the door open for a stay in Europe;

    I want to get back to playing and I can go to Europe or come to Velez which is the only shirt that I would wear in Argentina.

    If I was a betting man, my money would be on the player returning to Velez Sarsfield but I wouldn't rule out a move to Sunderland. He is still only 26, is likely to be a free agent and with Sunderland's new Italian links, would be a better bet to move to Sunderland than he was under O'Neill's reign.
