PNP: You are correct. Setting out your position if you're an Atheist is perceived as an attack - see back through this very thread. As for "you will never find an Atheist in the trenches" That's just offensive.
Of course they are. And the comment about Atheists not being found in the trenches is way more insulting, considering that current estimates put Atheists at almost half the population that means many soldiers who have died in Afghanistan and Iraq were Atheists. So yes, it's extremely offensive. I can tolerate all religions. I'm not going out and attack the nearest Muslim I come across even though I think their religion is hate-fuelled and intolerant of me. Likewise Mormons. I can leave them alone if they leave me alone. They don't by the way, and do actually go door to door. I don't go out wth placards demonstrating against its followers and I don't abuse them in the street. So these religions are tolerated by society and indeed by me. But tolerance doesn't mean I can't criticise, or even make fun of a religion. Why is it so sacrosanct? The story of Mormonism is laughable. Smith was an alleged criminal fraudster. Stereo has a point in that some say he was never convicted though I've seen the record of that conviction on the Internet but the Mormons say that's a fake. He was certainly charged and there was a trial. Either way, let's say he was a tad dodgy. Do some research and you'll see what I mean. In keeping with that dodgy background he made that daft claim about the gold plates and the fact that the Garden of Eden was in fact in Missouri, and a good 'ol American religion was born. Eventually he fell out with a splinter group and was murdered by them. Yes, they're a peaceful lot. What's frightening is that a prospective President of the U.S was one - yet whilst the American public had no problem with that many questioned whether Obama was actually a Muslim. Now we can't have that can we?
I cannot believe in the 21st century, people are still believing in these pathetic, immature fairytales. It's ridiculous. Ban all religions.

They say a little knowledge is dangerous, and if you put the sum total of all the worlds top scientific community together regarding our universe, then I'm sure you'd be able to fit it on a postage stamp, we know nothing, end of story!.......................
Possibly true but at least the scientific community is trying to understand Life the Universe and everything unlike the religious community who just fall back to old line that it's God will whenever a difficult question is raised. I want to read the trilogy of books written by Oolon Colluphid Where God Went Wrong. Some More of Gods Greatest Mistakes. Who is this God Person Anyway. It would take a sad,unenlighted person to say "you won't find an Athiest in the trenches". A contemptible thing to say. I wonder if the same person would ask the surgeon who was about to undertake a life saving operation on him,"You aren't an Athiest,are you?"

The proverb "you won't find an atheist in the trenches" (it's foxhole not trenches by the way) just means that in times of extreme fear everyone will hope for a higher power or God to help them. This is possibly true but only because, for century's, society has been indoctrinated with religious dogma.
I've not come across that proverb before Pagan. Here's another one. "He who waits for God,waits for an eternity".
