that's a fair point guru, but i haven't seen any norwich fans highlight this as an issue - its all about his attitude on the pitch.

I'm with you on the fact that every team needs a player who is willing to get stuck in and bend the rules now and again, probably because that was my style when i used to play.

Nobody is saying the differences in approach between last season and this had NO effect on his goal scoring. But it seems to me just as perverse to argue that that is the SOLE reason for the lower goal tally, as it would be to claim it had made no difference at all. IMO he scored fewer goals IN PART because his finishing was less clinical, that's all. I am not one of those who think he has nothing left to offer and should be allowed to leave; I just see signs that he is finding it harder to put in the same level of performances he was able to produce in previous seasons. I also happen to think that his family being unsettled and having to move back to Carlisle had an effect too, perfectly understandably. Paul Lambert, who is not a fool, and who knew all about the problems that assail big strikers in their 30s (e.g. John Hartson at Celtic), saw what was ahead for Holty -- but he also said that when they still regularly put the ball in the back of the net, you keep picking them! <ok>

all he said was he hasn't seen any premier league football this season in a post match interview, hardly a put-down on NCFC or an arogant comment. i doubt rvw would have seen much of us before we made contract with sporting.

Agree with this. Given that he was playing for Sweden on Wednesday night, I can imagine he wants to give himself a bit of space to consider things. I think we need to wait and see how things develop.

The fresh quotes from him indicate this is probably at a standstill for a month. Again he reiterates it has to be the right club.

Not so much a clogger, but if you crossed me then you knew about it. I was more of a subtle one, standing on toes at corners, knees in the kidneys when jumping, if there was a rule to be bent then i would find it, plus i knew how to influence a ref on the QT. I am proud to say that i was never sent off, bloody close a few times, but never saw red.

What is definition of crap? I was never the most technically gifted i would be the first to admit, but if being club captain from the age of 19 and overseeing 4 back to back promotions and scoring 68 goals in 289 appearances from centre half/defensive midfield is crap, well call me crap!

that's a hell of a scoring rate for a centre half guru! did you take the penalties? you scored more goals than i did from midfield!!

i'm afraid to say i was sent off a grand total of three times in my playing days. i wouldn't say i was hot-headed but if a game got heated i would usually end up in the middle of it. i was sent off once for deliberate handball in the last minute when winning 2-1 (the penalty was scored unfortunately), once for lamping someone who had just broken my cheekbone with his elbow deliberately (he told me he was going to smack me one at an earlier corner) and once for back chat to the ref - who'd have thought that? me, motormouth... never!! <laugh>

never took a penalty in my life supers, I was lucky enough to be at the rebuliding stage of the club when i was made club captain and we got promoted 4 seasons back to back and we were winning games easily. I had a spell of about 15 games where i played as a striker and notched about 15 goals in 15 games which boosted the ration up a bit, but mainly all from headers.

The closest i came to being sent off was playing saxmundham and this little **** of a centre forward kicked me across my dodgy knee off the ball, so the next time he went to chest the ball I went flying in and caught just below the chin with my boot! that wouldn't have been too bad but then i proceeded to pick him up by his neck while telling him if he did it again i wouldn't be so nice to him next time. strange thing is he never came near me again!

Sent off twice for professional foul playing for the mighty Matlock and neither time did it help and got a decent fine,

As interesting as these personal tales of football careers are, I'd like to get back to Toivenon in light of this article:

    http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2892/transfer-zone/2013/06/13/4045799/-?

Interesting that the time period has condensed a bit: "The 26-year-old, who bagged seven goals in 13 Eredivisie appearances last season, says he would spend the remainder of the week considering his future."

It's hard to know how much journalistic license has been taken in this and other articles. Take the one on RvW from Canary magazine which is titled: "New signing Ricky Van Wolfswinkel says he is the man to get Norwich up the table", when what RvW actually says is: "I am sure I can help take Norwich to that next level now..."There is already a great team there and I hope I can add to that. I will love working with the team and the coach and I see a very good future for us all - for me and for Norwich."

Let's cut Toivenon some slack until he has done his 'considering' this week.

For whats its worth I don't think this deal is going to happen. I would like it to but can't see it. Chances are, if this is a bargain, Spurs or someone will come in for him during his holidays. Thats what I see happening anyway.

apologies - went off on a bit of a tangent there!

nothing wrong with what toivonen is doing. why rush hastily into a decision? it's a big call for him to move to norwich

Not so much that Toivonen doesn't fancy Norwich, just that'll he perhaps fancy another club more. I would be surprised if he doesn't end up having a few clubs to choose from by the time he has to make a decision. We have agreed a fee with PSV which is a very good price, as I said would be surprised if another club, like Spurs (that's my example, a team at their level), haven't perhaps noticed that and will potentially enter the race to sign him. That's how I see things panning out.

That certainly could happen, but would he get many starts for Spurs competing against the likes of Dembele or Dempsey? I can see that he's 26 and this will be a big move for him, whereas RvW is only 24. Just have to wait and see, I guess.

well, that's football! these things happen. no doubt there are a few hull city fans getting excited by the prospect of gary hooper but if we come in and trump their offer i think he'd come here ahead of them. toivonen is quite within his rights to see if a bigger club or better offer come in for him. win some, lose some <ok>

I am not saying he is doing anything wrong, I just think that we may lose out on this one.
