I just want to hear some credible reports that we are being linked with some young exiting talent (preferably british) who wants to just get out there, show the prem what he has got and rip it up. I couldn't be less Excited about the thought of darren bent skulking around on the edge of the box just waiting for someone to pass him the ball.

If he was on a pay as you play type deal I wouldn't mind him in the squad. Has to be better back up than Ameobi. That said, would much rather Carroll or Ba back.

Just lazy journos. No thanks, he is distinctly average and always has been.

Agreed, I know it's very early in pre season but I just don't feel like there's much to get excited about regarding the upcoming season.

Since when has top 8 ever been an achievement of any note??? I remember the days when we used to say winning a cup is a priority, now it's top 8 and "a good run in the cup".

We for sure missed a trick last year. We had a chance to make use of the reputation we had built up off the back of a brilliant season to do some really good recruitment for the future. Our good work has now been undone and we are back to being linked with darren bent.

The extra Prem money has taken even more away from the cups. Remember, in spite of Tiote's comments, we'd rather not be in that pesky Europa League.

Money has also played a big part, it's all got a bit fcking ridiculous. Monaco/PSG finding new clout, the dominance of German football - the UK media seem to have a much less believable sense of excitement, as has been highlighted by the pathetic circus that surrounded Mourinho's return. They desperately scrabble around for a big story, but thus far it's been more likely that the bigger stories are in French or German. That even mighty Man City have had to fork out £15m for Jesus Navas - hardly an inspiring story - speaks volumes, as Falcao packs his bags for Monaco. The "big" story of today is "how would Gary Hooper do at Hull?". How the mighty have fallen.

From one viewpoint it's really that horrible, the whole situation makes me want to heave a sigh of despair.

But look at it from a business viewpoint. January was a fantastic month for us, we picked up some real talent at knockdown prices on long contracts. We've had a shocker of a season and it's natural to feel like it's never going to get better, but we have the first team right now, when it's uninjured and on form, to put us in the top 8 of the Premier League. We need to add to it for sure, but there are no real stinkers in the team apart from maybe Gosling, Jonas and Willo, and hopefully 2 of those will leave in the summer.

Seriously, if we sign a quality striker and a first team CB out of nowhere from overseas, and don't add to the squad apart from that, you have to predict a good season for us on paper. We're just suffering the effects of coming to the end of the season on such a low note, to us Cissé will always be terrible, Pardew will always be clueless etc etc. That's not analysis, it's whinging! Keep the faith!

Afraid to say, I could see there being something in this, maybe available for a cheap price, Villa want rid and Pardew managed him at Charlton. Can't see him playing well with Cisse though.

Not in a month of Sundays! The guy is overrated, over priced and over-ly greedy. Rather get some like Rhodes in who has some potential an is looking to progress instead a washed up ex international who has barley played this year!

I would have him no problem.Has scored goals at every club he has played for and would do a job for us no problem. But i would pay 4 mil and 35 grand a week for 3 years AND still buy another striker.

Him AND Remy, not so much of an issue. Cisse/Remy/Bent/Campbell? That's approaching ridiculous.

If we waste our money on the one dimensional Bent then I'm joining the Pardew Out! brigade. Very average, over paid ageing striker who is on the slide from decent to poor.

I've had my suspicions you've been got at Warm Pouch, don't let the bastards grind you down. I hope St Alan signs Bent, makes Shola his main striker, offers Jonas a 10 year contract extension and gets rid of Cisse, Cabaye, Tiote, Gouffran and Sissoko. I'd like to think he'd let Colo, Debuchy and Santon go out on loan to Ponteland United for 5 years and bring me in as his head coach, when this dream team get's their collective message across to the current youth squad and wins the Premier League, everything Pardew, you and I have stood for will be proved to be the model other teams will adopt.

I would rather pay 9/10 mil for him than get Bent in, probably less wages, less ego and a reasonable chance of recouping some money if he turns out to be as **** as we know Bent is!

Bent is Premier League proven, though, Rhodes has had one season in the Championship and spent the rest of his career in League One.

I wouldn't mind Bent. Wherever he's played he's scored goals.

Isn't that exactly what we need? We created arguably enough we just squandered way too many chances. Bent can easily get 15-20 goals a season, much like Defoe. Never mind his age. Another player I wouldn't mind having is Jonathan Walters whos made himself from being a fizzypop player to carrying a whole team. With Pulis gone, he might be ready to leave too. 4 mio bid?
