We've bid £4m for Gary Hooper - Celtic fans bitching thread

In all fairness, both aluko and hooper are average.

I dont blame Hooper for wanting to play in the EPL.. not at all.

Most weeks it would be a more competitive level than say Celtic v Dundee.

However, he will miss out on european football.

He must be hoping to use Hull (if he goes) as a stepping stone to a bigger club - if he does well.

 

Aluko is a risk in the epl aye, but ge tore up the championship and hooper is a risk too but i personally think Hooper would be an outstanding signing that would do fabulous in the epl..

Almost all of our squad has no epl experience at the moment

 

As I have said above, every one of our players are unproven in the prem, but we admit it. It's rumoured to be £4.7m, which is quite a reasonable first offer for a player with a year left. This is our first offer and not a "take it or leave it."

Eventually leave for a bigger club however celtic struggle to get past the group stage and that's not worth the poor league for 90% of the aeason for some players, i wish the spl was a higher level, it would make better matches vs english teams but unfortunately its not

 

Sorry, but that's wrong. Blame the Glasgow clubs who for the last 30+ years have had the most money, buy the best players from other teams, bench or loan them out of the SPL and just completely monopolise the league.

Obviously buying other teams better players is fine if you're doing it to bolster your own team, but buying them to ONLY stop any competition is criminal. Plus like Celtic88 mentioned earlier, the SPL management makes the FA look efficient and effective. Corrupt and self serving doesn't even begin to describe those leeches.

 

I can't be arsed with the "my dad's bigger than your dad" bollocks. All I will say is, you (not your club, but you) say that Hooper is worth £5m to £7m. We have reportedly offered £4.7m, which (as has been said) is not a million miles away from your valuation. It doesn't suggest we are trying to "get him on the cheap" or are "showing disrespect" or being arrogant about it.

The most sense thats been said here. All i'm saying is show him some respect, every level hes competed at hes been a success, it just seems the majority take one look at the league he plays in and start to question his ability.

 

You're not getting my point I think (my fault I know)...you have a semi decent team, who doesn't play difficult games week in week out like teams in the EPL does. Most of them are like training games. Turn up, minimum effort, win, next.

You then don't have to fight to qualify for the CL, its a given due to the major problems in Scottish football. Any semi decent team who can pretty much be fresh for all CL games should do as well as you do, possibly even better.

 

But we can only judge it now on the current climate, not whats been and gone

The sfa are a farce but honestly what could be done now?

Celtic and rangers are like the manchester uniteds of scotland against the barnsleys and leeds of te current championship, its not just te glasgow monopoly

Almost always a team from div 1 goss to the spl, only one team goes up and down which is a farce and almost always finish 10 points behind 11th..

They need to make the league into 18 teams and reshuffle but it was all reffused. Its slowly dying every year

I totally agree about Hooper doing the business wherever he has been, but many a striker have gone to the prem with impressive strike rates and failed. I think he would be a great signing for any club in the prem up until the top 6/7.

 

If timmy gets more than 5m for hooper it will be a nice piece of business by the kiddie fiddlers.

 

4.7 million for a player in the last year of his contract and seemingly doesnt want to sign a new one isnt cheap .

 

If we were to pay £4m+ for Aluko this summer, then yes it would be a risk. But so would most of our players and we can't afford, and don't need to, replace all of them with players with EPL experience.

 

That's doing a massive diservice to other SPL teams...

Celtic dont just turn up and win! Other team, particulary at their own ground, give Celtic a game.
