    Joey wants £3.5m to go

JOEY BARTON is after a whopping £3.5million to quit QPR.

The hothead midfielder missed Hoops’ relegation last season while on loan at Marseille in France and wants a permanent move.

But he still has two years left on a £70,000-a-week deal and is demanding half of that to get him off the payroll.

QPR must offload a host of highly-paid flops to trim costs after finishing bottom in the Prem.

Boss Harry Redknapp wants Barton, 30, back but admits it will be tough to get him to swap the French Riviera for the Championship.

And cutting their losses on bad-boy Barton would save the West London club £3.5million, which Redknapp could reinvest.

But it is still a huge sum to write off in order to get rid of one player.

Barton could use his payoff to offset the costs of moving to Marseille after the club said he must take a 50 per cent pay CUT to stay on.

He says he doesn't want to be here. So cancel your contract, by mutual agreement, Joey. Simples!!!!

Perhaps Mr Fernandes would be well advised to take a closer interest in the terms of the contracts offered from now on?

Being that one is not spiteful, one does not hold any grudges and one only wants the absolute best outcome for our beloved Joey, so please allow me to offer a suggestive thought to Barton............
Get back over here. If the manager & owners want you to play, so be it ............ aim up, sunshine.
You signed a contract so be man enough to not only honour it but to put the effort in week after week and make a real difference to the squad.

You never know, you may just activate your conscious and realise we fans deserve your concerted efforts in playing for the club.

I think Joey would be a valuable asset IF he wanted to play for us for us in the championship.

I still don't think he should be paid anything if it is him that wants to walk away, yes we obviously want rid of him from a financial aspect but how can he be so arrogant to believe he is worth £3.5 million up front.
We allowed him to go to Marseille and paid half his wages last season and their in the Champions League????

In the long term it would save money to pay off his contract as many have stated but to do it Fernandes and Co will have to find £3.5 million from somewhere straight away and not just his weekly wage. Massive difference.

I say stay firm, the guy has ridiculed the club and owners who have shown much more loved for QPR.
In short leave the ball in his court, force him to walk away if he thinks he is better than our club and playing in the Championship.

Make him return and play or walk away with nothing. Im sure TF will be clever about this. I think I am right about what he did with Hughes, in that he did not pay up his contract but just let it run hoping he would get another job,
thus saving us money. Mr Richard "I know it all " Keys made reference to that fact several times saying its a disgrace a managers(Hughes) contrarct is not been paid up.

Joey is Poison to the team, if nobody wants to buy him ferry him out on loan even if it only covers half of his wages but don't let him back in.

Pardon my ignorance but what level of football is Marseille? PL? NPC? Top, middle or bottom of one of those two I suppose?

... It's a completely different game and IMO far more advanced technically ... joey fits in because of the brawn thing and connects with the passion. He dissapears in games and as usual relies on a chance to make a tackle which he gets wrong more times than usual.

Most French sides apart from a few would give get in the middle league of the premier league, PSG, Marseille and Lyon top sixish.

I think however all of them would fair poorly in the championship and some would not make League 1

Anyone spent time in the south of France? ... Life is very sweet indeed and very hard to come back from.

Joey doesn't want to come back. He's got it good down on the South Coast of France. The club should call him back to honor his contract in Shepherd's Bush. If they do, I think they'll find he'll be prepared to leave now with a lot less than £3.5m

No need to pay him off. He's already said how he will not play in the championship, so eventually he will leave by mutual agreement.

They have two choices, Call him back, put him in the team and get back to the premier league or pay him his money & wish him well on his travels,

Or tell him hes not going to be in the 1st team and were not going to pay him off. He can either rot or cancel his contract.

Poor discipline, generally poor performances and diabolical attitude and (if story is true) we have to pay him a golden handshake of £3.5m to go. Our HR lawyers should sod off to Marseille too assuming they failed to include anything in the contract to allow us the ability to terminate it for such behaviour. If they did advise and we simply allowed such clauses to be negotiated out of the deal by Barton's agents, then we deserve to suffer the financial penalty.
