What is wrong with Rodgers saying he wants to add more goals to the team? Doesn't every manager want to score loads of goals? How do you anticipate winning games if you don't score? Would you be happier if Rodgers wanted to score less goals next season? Just because Everton play dull football doesn't mean that the rest of the league wants to as well
Christ cant BR say anything without getting ripped to shreads for it. expect it from Tobes but when its our own, cant we support a little and be a bit optimistic? Last season when we were good we were very good so lets just get behind out team a little hey
This is just positive noise from Rodgers the aim of 20 more goals is probably a bit much but aim for the stars and all that. As I said earlier if the positive noise becomes a reality I'll be happy but lest wait and see on that.
Absolutely nothing. But he was very specific, he said he wanted to add 20 goals to the team, which (if true) would mean you aiming to score 91 league goals next season. Which is unrealistic isn't it? If that's his actual 'plan' then it's very ambitious, but I suspect it was just a number plucked out of thin air personally.
If Suarez goes we may score less, we may score more who knows? As long as we score 1 more that the opposition who gives a monkeys if what he said is being unrealistic
"I suspect it was just a number plucked out of thin air " Yes Tobes he didnt sit down for days and think about it, happy?
Just making a point mate, as Brendan does love to give the impression that everything is so very complicated & that's he's a real grafter (as he talks about in that piece) So, when he gives a such as specific quote, then I'd expect some actual thought to have gone behind it.........
Tobes make up your mind mate. When BR was talking about challenging for 4th during the season you lambasted him and us for a lack of ambition & acceptance of mediocrity. Now according to your calculations he's talking about challenging for the title he's unrealistic. So which is it; mediocrity or delusions of grandeur. It can't be both. How about he's setting himself & the team a target. If he adds just ten more then we're in the mix eh? (Unless of course everyone scores ten more lol) but I expect as LFC manager him to set high targets. I expect him to give it a good go this year too or I'll start to ask why not? As opposed to saying we're going to get x points or finish 2nd as he can't control what other teams do this year but as he said that's not his job to look for excuses. And sorry MFG: yet again you sound absolutely 100% ridiculous. You criticise BR for talking numbers, actual facts but use against him the absolute nonsense of "near misses" and posts from the year before as if they were some magical caterpillar laid out the arse of KD ready to transform into a butterfly despite whoever was manager the year after.... They are misses, no goals, no wins, no points for posts or almost an in. Clinging to that as if its some fact or proof of greatness undiscovered is just silly. Or using your own throw away logic how about I claim it is all Brendan Rogers doing. He took the wastefulness of his inherited team and his skill as a coach & tactician converted misses into goals? No? Why not? It's as valid a claim as your bitter rubbish. I mean this guy you said is appalling finished one place higher and 9 points more than KD with the same team in fact higher while apparently stupidly throwing away "great" KD signings, or ignoring them for half the year or buying no one or buying stupidly. So how crap does that make KD?? I mean its your logic. No wait? No cups or finals so that wipes out any uncomfortable figures in the league doesn't it? Nope, I'm going to use MFG logic and say if BR's cup teams had of scored all those goals they didn't score we actually would have won all 3 cups we were in so BR is the greatest!!!!! Neither is true but sure as long as you continue your bitter tirade. How many years are you keeping this up mate? And I notice as you talk about him not realising everyone else would improve too as an accusation. But he did, he states it for this year coming in this very interview, so I assume he saw it last year too? Unlike you for Kenny (seriously let go) he also states he isn't going to use it as an excuse what other teams do. So.....why are you using it as an excuse MFG? Do you have little BR dolls you sit sticking pins into covered in chicken blood. Because you really sound that bitterly obsessed. Walls covered in BR Photos? You cutting out letters to paste & send to him? Pathetic.
I never lambasted him for saying that a challenge for 4th was 'low balling'. I took a pop at him for saying that anything better than 8th would be fantastic (or some similar superlative he added to it) If he MEANT that a title challenge was your goal, then I'd say it was unrealistic imo, but I wouldn't have a pop. But he patently didn't mean that, he was just chucking poorly thought out soundbites out there Frank.
Tobes you would have said the same thing if he said that last season - he scored 24 more goals than prior year so why not aim to do that again? MFG - ****ing grow up it's getting mind numbingly boring.
Last season you scored less than Blackburn who finished 19th mate, so it was obvious there was scope for improvement. However, 71 is good going & to look to add another 20, is beyond what is feasible & more to the point - beyond what he would accept as feasible had he actually thought about it - which was my point.
Fair enough, I'll take your word for it that that was the approach you took on the "mediocre" line. On the other point: Not so sure mate: if BR had said at the start of this season we'll add near 30 goals from last seasons total you may well have (based on the season before) said "don't be ridiculous that will put you fighting for 3rd spot; never going to happen" be honest? You'd have said something similar wouldn't you? Well we did but it didn't result in us fighting for third because everyone else bar the first placed team scored more as well. So that's why I find it an acceptable target for our attacking 5. Aim for 90 goals. If (highly unlikely) we get it we'll be challenging for league. 10 short well in hunt for 2/3, 15 short still in hunt for 4th. But again, it all depends on those around us. And of course on how many you let in. I'm not reading into it any more than a target set for our attackers. He could just as easily set our defence the target of 10 less goals conceded for next year. Likely? No. And yes, fluff wise he's sending a sound bite to the fans that he wants (like we do) to be even more attacking. Who doesn't (as long as it doesn't put your defence more at risk)
Whether you like it or not he is the manager of a top club and wouldn't just say things that 'pop' in to his head. Maybe he has looked at the fact we only scored 13 goals in our opening 10 games - That can be improved on drastically.
Mighty's already addressed the point: more succinctly too might I add lol. Than my point bluff not yours lol
Going for 91 goals - thats 2.4 per game. Its not a realistic target really - City scored 93 in 11/12, Chavski scored 103 in 09/10, United scored 97 in 99/00, but otherwise, it was always less that 90 goals for the champions in 21 seasons. Tightening up the defence looks to be far more key to me, and far more realistic in terms of getting more points.
