I call this bad, because it will be bad for us if true!!! McDermott is not at all happy with the Exec at Leeds as his transfer activity seems to be stalling. Four bids in for players over a week ago and nothing has been concluded. Wages the key issue, which means not enough money being made available. Byram may be sacrificed to get cash in, Exec becoming a bit desperate. Expect selling price to be way below the £8m quoted in Press. Here's the interesting bit. McDermott is very happy with Harvey, and the way he has gone about his work, so the problem clearly lies with GFH. They don't have the money available to fund a serious attack in this transfer window. So, our big issue seems to be selling Byram, and more importantly how cheaply clubs think he can be got for. Should GFH not up their game, and quickly, are we in danger of losing a really good manager?
Just made our first signing, so how is it stalling. Patience needed not panic and false accusations at gfh. Are you Eireleeds in disguise. Looks like i need another set of knives for my wrists.
I'm really staying away from the accusations made about GFH, in fact to the point that I am becoming defensive of them. Let them be judged by their activity in this transfer window, not from what the press say or what happened in January or even Warnock trying to shift blame away from himself to GFH. After this window I will judge them on how they have done and we'll see Another thing to remember though is that I don't expect McDermott to spend much money anyway, he is a real scout in the transfer window and doesn't tend to spend much money. I think he would prefer to get some bosmans (there really is some good ones going) and players going cheap that he expects to be able to get more out of
Doom and gloom, doom and gloom, oh yay the world is nigh!! Or maybe you're just talking poop, and we should give it time? Take your pick, but i'm going to give them time bearing in mind all the good price changes they've brought in already
The same sort of rumours circulated about Warnock leaving before the season started last year, I don't think GFH have a pot to piss in if I am honest but I will judge them by who we have signed once all is done and dusted. So far I give them 2/10 based on January
Look, I have said its a rumour, do I agree with it? No. But, having seen how GFH do things it surely can cause problems. As for this first signing, getting a donkey on a free is not exactly exceptional business, is it? Smith will not be scoring 20 goals for us, that's for sure. So why sign him? The boy can only jump and head, that's it, so really puzzled by this move. It shows lack of funds/ambition.
No it doesn't and that makes it obvious to me that you have just looked at his stats and made your mind up on them. McDermott is a former scout, he has shown a history of signing players from lower leagues that have been successful. We were by no means the only championship club trying to sign him either, I think he will turn out to be a real gem as I have seen him play before and he is strong in the air and is also capable of taking the ball down and playing with his back to the goal which in fairness we haven't had anyone at the club that can do that in a real long time. A few on here were talking about him a few months ago also saying we should sign him, all I'm saying is give him a chance and dont judge a player by looking at their stats. That can give you the wrong impression on a player
Josh, watched him play in FA Cup run on ESPN and height is all he has to offer. As with all signings, time will tell, but I'm just not confident, same as I wasn't with Paynter. As for stats, don't know where to find his. Yes he scored in the Cup but I don't class him as a Leeds United quality player. Just disappointed that this is one of the four bids, very underwhelming.
Who needs Sam Byram anyway when you have Lee Peltier How good is Byram? He has always looked decent whenever i have seen him but does he have the ability or he is a bit raw at the minute?
Well he won all of our end of season awards. Player of the year, young player of the year and so on. He is very very good going forward, fairly quick and quite solid at the back considering his performance in the first game of the season when he was marking Jarvis. He also kept Bale out of the game when we played Spurs so they switched sides and Lennon still had no luck against him. He still makes some silly mistakes but they were practically non-existent by the end of the season as he improved so much. I would say he has the ability but I question his decision making at times. There is certainly a reason the likes of Man Citeh and Arsenal are interested.
I will back Smith when he pulls on the famous shirt, that is a given. Really hope he is our 20 goals striker, but as I said underwhelmed a bit.
Expecting us to get Hunt today on a free transfer, another who won't excite me in the slightest. If this is our next signing then I would assume we will start with any two from Hunt. McCormack, Morrison with Smith being a fringe player - We are talking a player who couldn't make the starting line-up of a Div 1 side - He won't start enough games to get us 20 goals, I hope I am wrong but can't see it at the moment.
What were your expectations though? Did you really believe we would be trading in any other market other than the freebie and out of contract one?
I have bookmarked a post I made in the Leicester raid thread, names such as Beckford, Mills, Sharp and a few others were being thrown around, I said GFH lowered ticket prices for next season why? Because gates are dwindling and there is nothing happening to attract fans back. Had GFH a few million to throw at a promotion challenge prices would not have been lowered.
The most comfortable defender I have seen for a long long time. Brilliant on the ball and will definitely step up easily to the premiership
Ristac I totally agree, GFH had no option to reduce the ticket prices otherwise we would have seen sub 10k season tickets (we still might) We have spent far too many year been fed bullshit and people aren't gonna accept it anymore
Cheer up guys. We're in a better place than we were 5 to 10 yrs ago. BMD, I trust. So long as this season we can see: At least a top 6 finish; Some more of the kids being given a chance; & Holding on to Byram to show that if not this season then certainly next, we are more or less a show in for auto From the mood on here, you'd have thought we were already in a relegation dog fight. BMD's in charge. Our first signing is a guy that with the right approach (& not necessarily hoofball), he'll either score a load or lay it off for Ross & co. to knock in from close range. No one should be beating him in the air. So we should create plenty of chances from corners and free kicks. Cheer up
Probably cos last season we were in a relegation dogfight. We havent yet signed anyone likely to make any difference yet but if we do, the mood will change
