Took them cos people like Gerrard waited until Liverpool didnt need him then had an op, missing out on captaining his country against Brazil in Brazil. An opportunity he will never get again.
Most of his better players were sent to Brazil to sit on the bench or play a few minutes. Surely using Oxlade, Wilshire and Rodwell in a tournament rather than a meaningless game would have been a better use of the players. Then again Hodgson's pool of senior talent is pretty shallow i suppose. Win the World Cup in the 2020's? - no chance.
I also see the FA have arranged a friendly with Scotland at Wembley for Wednesday 14/08/2013 - the season kicks-off on the 17th !! What sort of rag-tag team will get put out for that game? Amazing!
Honest interview from Pearce. Poor **** will get the sack to appease the critics. We are in the **** completely. The FA need to man up to the premier league clubs.
The better players are already with the main squad, there are not many playing tonight that would give you much hope apart from maybe Zaha and Ince ( hope thats not a cue for Wombat ****wit to turn up on here)
Agree - but don't think they will give it to him. Hoddle would at least start them playing in the 'right way' before they step up.
I find it funny how fans of all clubs say we should be bringing up our own talent and playing them, instead of buying Carlos Kickaballs. But then when they bring in multiple foreigners and no English players, they don't even think to mention it.
He was a tremendous player for club and country as a hard tackling full back ... and therein lies the problem - he just doesn't have the intellect or tactical nous to coach the finer aspects of the game, particularly at international level. Shouldn't take away from his worth as a player - but he was always going to be the proverbial round peg in a square hole. Not just down to him mind - the whole system needs an overhaul starting with sitting down our so called young superstars and opening their eyes to the fact that they are distinctly average and that bling and fast cars are not the measure of world class players - merely evidence of a lack of taste in the incredibly overhyped false economy of the Premier League.
As much as I like the bloke Pearce was handed the England Under 21 job as an act of charity for his services to England as a player. Everyone wanted him to be a success when he retired as a player, but he did nothing during his short career in club management and even less for the Under 21s. Time to go Stuart and let an experienced manager have a go.
