Probably a very silly question but is a car required to pass scrutinising at the end of the race no matter what? I would doubt that Webbers front wing would pass the deflection test at the end of this race. I understand that it would be damage that would cause it to fail the deflection test but the team had an opportunity to change it at the pit stop. So do cars have to pass scrutinising at the end of the gp? Cheers
Pretty sure any damage inflicted during the race will be overlooked. Last thing we need is another reason to penalize racing.
I still think it would pass, he only lost the end plate. Even if it fails I'm sure they'll let it pass, it would've been tested after qualifying and it's clearly been damaged.
Yes, car inspection can be done after a race. However, any component which suffers damage cannot be tested as if it were undamaged. Therefore Webber and his wing have no case to answer.
was it? or was it just the camera angle? If it was damaged I'm surprised he wasn't orange circled for it, having a rear wing failure has to one of the most dangerous things in F1 and if it was damaged he shouldn't really have been allowed to continue to race
I had the on board footage for a good while on Sutil's rear wing, it was fully broken on one side that you would see it bend when downforce was applied. SCARY!
to me it looked like a flap on one of the side structures. I will have to watch again and confirm at what point. it was pretty much after the crash I think
Could have been the angle of the camera, but I too thought that at top speed, down the back straight it was flexing/leaning slightly to the right...
It was leaning fairly clearly at times. I guess it must have been safe though, otherwise the team would have surely retired him.
Nah it was bending to something of a hand length, the camera was placed to the left (facing backwards) but you could clearly see it bend up and down down the mainstraight.
Will have to see that again, from what I saw, it was certainly flexing but hand length, surely if that was the case they he'd be gaining an unfair advantage as well as being dangerous and should have been black and orange flagged?
Where do you draw the line with "moving aerodynamic devices"? It'd be interesting if you could design something to deliberately break favourably.
Have you not seen my Cartoons? I'm not so good at the drawing of lines (blame it on too much coffee....)
