And a goal every two games is not bad in any league <laugh>

Certainly seems a good fit and at £2m …

Apparently he wants to leave because of a dispute over his contract. I‘m not sure what that is about or how easy it would make negotiations.

A name I'm going to throw into the mix is Thomas Rogne (centre back). It seems like he wont be getting a new deal at Celtic. Now, at 22 he is not the finished article but he has had a couple of caps for Norway and plays in their under 21s. A few injuries a Celtic have hampered his progress, but on a free transfer surely worth a sniff?

Apparently Tottenham are willing to pay up to 7m for Kaca.

This could work in our favour as we could pull a reverse Levy on them and ask for them to involve Huddlestone in the deal.
5m and Huddlestone would be a good deal this would give us more money to invest in the squad and it would also be favourable to Spurs as they are looking to get players off their wage bill.

I wouldn't want Kaca to leave, he gave us something with his linkup play at the end of the season.

He is an exciting prospect for next season, and Spuds know that too.

A name to the mix Anthony Knockaert, Leicester. He is in his early twenties, attack minded midfielder and has a great engine. He did miss the pen in the playoff's but he has impressed me a lot this year. He had 9 goals and 8 assists last term.

Mrs 2Stripes won't be pleased as she is a Leicester girl.

I'm with 2whitestripes, I wouldn't want Kaca to leave. As I recall, he's got another year on his contract, plus the option of a further year - so basically two years - which means we aren't in the position of having to sell him. Much as I'd like Huddlestone, he's not our only option for that position, so we shouldn't let Spurs use that to dictate to us.

As for Knockaert, I don't know much about him but I wouldn't want us to come between 2whitestripes and his other half.

Conzo, I saw that Rogne said he was likely to move on from Celtic. Does an out of contract 22 year old come on a free? I thought that under the age of 23 there was still a fee to be paid, even if the contract has expired. Celtic wouldn't be able to stop him moving though, and the fee is determined by some formula or other rather than whatever the selling club demand. Does anyone know if I've got that right? Anyway, I'm not sure that another centre back is what we need right now.

You are right Captain. To be exact, the regulation (64.3) is as follows:

Subject to the provisions of this Regulation 64, any Club which makes an offer in accordance with Regulation 64.2 of re-engagement to a Contract Player who is an Under 24 Player and which is in the opinion of the Board not less favourable than the Player's current contractual terms, shall be entitled to a Compensation Fee in respect of the loss of the Player's registration, should the Player sign for another Club. In order to comply with this Regulation, the annual value of the terms offered must be at least equivalent to the most favourable year's terms in the Player's previous contract. The terms offered to Players for re-engagements must be as favourable overall except that a signing-on fee included in the previous contract and stated to be a once only payment need not be repeated. Copies of all offers of re-engagement made to Contract Players must be sent to the Secretary.

Fascinating stuff I'm sure we all agree. Thank the Lord for Google and cut and paste.

The complication being, of course, that that is an FA regulation and Celtic are not protected by FA rules.

Do the FA and SFA have an agreement to honour said clause on transfers between the two?

I guess there must be a similar agreenent Surly. We had to pay Aberdeen a 'fixed' amount for Jack Grimmer because he had come through their Development Squad. And, if I remember, before that there was some hassle over money for Fraser Fyvie which caused us to drop out.

Italian reports have us linked with attacking midfielder Adrian Soian.

”Fulham want to go shopping in Italy and monitor the situation of Stoian. The Romanian player is halfway between Chievo and Roma and then we must first solve the grain of ownership. The Belgian also like to Naples, however, the competition is so great and fierce. The Roma, reports calciomercato.com, it seems in pole position."

The 22 yr old currently plays for Italian side Verona, and the Romania national U-21 football team. Stoian began his career as an apprentice at Gheorghe Popescu's football school and in 2008 he moved to the AS Roma youth team. He’s had spells on loan to Pescara, Bari and the most recent one, a season long loan to Chievo Verona which has just ended.

I suspect his name came up when Jol met Roma’s Bardini over the Stecky move and it was no more than Jol’s ’toe in the water’ stuff.

Hmm. Santa Cruz. He's never exactly set the world on fire anywhere he's been really has he. Good player on his day but another bit of a luxury and we certainly couldn't afford three in the squad.

He was superb at Blackburn, but after his big-money move to City he got injury after injury and that was that.

If we're looking to bring in an over the hill injury prone striker I'd prefer keeping Petric. Would RSC have gotten more goals this season then Petric? I don't think so.

He actually scored 8 goals last season for Malaga including one in the Champions League. Petric only managed 5 for us.

I meant for us. I'm guessing RSC played more games for Malaga in a weaker league this season than Petric?

Yeah he played 10 more games than Petric managed, but 2 of Petric's goals came in the same match so it's all swings and roundabouts. Safe to say neither set the world alight.

I thought Santa Cruz was destined for the Cottage when Mark Hughes signed for us and was quite happy then. I don't want him now.

Just rumours at the moment. Petric isn't an option anyway as he wants first team football. As a squad player RSC could play a part but like I said, there must be better options out there. There are probably a few in our youth team(s).

How old is Santa Cruz now? As others have said, once upon a time I'd have been excited at the thought of signing him, but not now. I would like to see another striker - as distinct to an attacking midfielder who can play up front - coming in though.
