Douglas to be our first summer signing!

...according to Corriere dello Sport who are saying he has turned down Lazio to join us.

Hope it's true - should be a very good free signing for whoever gets him and I'm getting seriously bored without any football or transfer movement to remark about.

Couldn't really go wrong on a free transfer.

 

Not convinced he's completely what we need, be a good signing if he's a replacement for Williamson though. Would like him to replace Williamson and then sign another CB that is top notch.

I really wish we had landed Vertonghen last season, we were strongly linked with him but doubt we ever actually even bid for the lad! He's been outstanding for Spurs.

 

While a better CB would of course be nice, having Douglas as 4th choice CB really wouldn't be bad at all

 

I'm not sure how we could baulk at this. Saylor, Colo, Mbiwa, Douglas would be a fantastic situation for a club like us!

I still expect him at Lazio or in Italy. It has been rumoured strongly for a long time, probably just a bit of last minute bartering from his agents to squeeze every last penny out of the deal. Lazio have already allowed Diakite to leave on a free haven't they? (are the mackems not interested?)

 

On a free Douglas would be great, gives us that boost in terms of being that bit stronger in the air that we are currently lacking; he would also need to keep control of his temperament and mature a bit also if he was to come here. The Metro are running a story on Mahamadou Sakho > Newcastle United, but they also state that the player would want to talk with Carlo Ancelloti's prospective successor before deciding on his future.

I still maintain that we need to recruit some English player's because having 17 overseas players in the first team is morally bent and there definitely should be rules incorporated to make sure our own lads and youngsters are getting their opportunity's, especially since the top teams are starting to poach the 14-17 year old player's from foreign academy's even Barcelona have lost teenagers to City, Spurs and Chelsea. The way things are going, the only way English player's will get a chance is to come through the academy's at League 1 or 2 teams. Which will spell trouble for our national team which quite frankly is already lacking options.

 

To be fair, that might be our best chance of winning games.

He's basically a poor man's Kompany. Nothing amazing, but a solid defender.

Him and Colo would be great together IMO.

He's got decent pace, good aerial ability, really good standing tackler. Not so good when sliding in, but everyone has their flaws.
