For me there is a lot of delusion re Barca and people thinking they are done or "Tactically Found out"
CL is 50% down to luck imo. the best team in the world can lose to one of the worst sides in the competition. Its not really a good indicator of who is the best in europe. Its why I would only consider sides who win both the domestic title and the Champions League as the best in the world. As for Mourinho quotes, we have done this before for Shankly, Fergie and Mourinho. Good threads they were as well.
Benitez in particular always performed better in Europe and in the cups because his attention to detail in the individual games was very good, but not so much in the league where the games come thick and fast and opposition varies significantly from weak to weak. Moyes won't really be judged by how he does in Europe. There's no pressure on him to win the CL in his first season especially given the strength of other teams but there is pressure of him in the league and that will be his priority which could lead to underperformance in the CL.
Need to keep Vidal and Marchisio as well. They & Shaktar were better than any PL side we faced last season. Off the ball, Juve were the best team to come to the Bridge by a mile and were only really beaten by a deflected goal and a wonder goal.
mourinho got the sack before porto from a small club. I think since then he's picked his moves for short termism. chelsea were prime for success. ranieri did very well there, inter were primed for titles, real were primed as well.... in many ways he failed at real. now he's back at chelsea and they are spending 500mil to prime the queue for more titles....
And if you believe that you'll believe anything Edit: Did Mourinho receive a payoff in Chelsea's accounts?
Jose got too big for his booties with Roman and got sacked DL imo. Roman doesn't do mutual consent, its either do as he says and deliver what he wants or get sacked. I don't doubt there was a mutual consent fee paid to Jose on his departure. Whether it's on the Chelsea books or not is another matter.
Yeah that's pretty the sack, in both senses of the word, Jose got both please log in to view this image
If you look solely on win percentage, Rafa's stats show League 55.26%, Europe 56.27% hardly any difference.
excuse me district but lets be clear. leave the instant knee jerk reaction to defend your new boss to the hilt. 1. inter milan had how many players when he arrived. Mourinho took Mancini's team and improved it in europe. it already won in italy. its just saying he's better than mancini which is the truth! 2. with respect to porto they lucked into the CL. that last gasp goal v utd then a final v monaco???? come on! we see the continuing porot amazing work many years later assembling teams for coaches. 3. All i think what can be said is mourinho is very smart in picking sides ready to succeed and his great talent is making that side really succeed. i don't think i at least am saying he's not brilliant... i'm just saying he's a smart cookie and only goes where trophies are ready to go. looking at mancini getting to a semi in the CL then next thing his side wins all 3 cups... mourinho is a brilliant coach and defensive coach so i expect chelsea to be at the title challenging space next april... now way they will be also rans again. 4. that said he's still a guy who's failed at real cos i don't see why on earth they didn't do better in the CL. bayern did them over then dortmund. thats a big failure. real is a huge standard.
