He likes to place it, doesn't he..! Cool as...

Southampton's penalty success has reached mainstream comment on a number of occasions. Twice, during the last season, no less than Gary Lineker mentioned to his diehard Liverpudian pundits on MOTD that there must be something in the water down on the South Coast. He also mentioned a certain Mr Le Tissier by name who could be relied upon [whoever he was :) ] way back when. We've never lacked for a top quality penalty taker. Sometimes they've been utterly superb, sometimes merely excellent. Hardly ever poor. There always seemed to be somebody who could do the business reliably.

Certainly been lucky with our takers. Peach was unflappable, seem to remember Beats was good too!

David Peach - legend. He would also pick up the award for "Last Player who should ever have gone with a 70s Perm"

I believe Beattie never missed and Le Tissiers miss is well documented. Who missed our other premier league penalty?

Who can forget that terrible miss from Sharp at Blackpool. The only fail in the Lambert era in normal time.

I'm still recovering from the shock of someone asking who would take the penalty if Rickie wasn't available.

Turning it around 180, has there been any article on penalty saves for Saints. We don't seem to do that badly in that department either. Both Kelvin and Artur were magnificent last season.

That was one of the absolute low points of my Saints supporting life. After that game, even administration and relegation to League 1 didn't really hurt, as I had become so resigned to disappointment.

As soon as sharp stepped up i knew he would miss. Could see the lack of confidence as hadn't really hit form, felt bad for him.

I remember le tiss's miss, wasn't it a certain excellent ex-saint who stopped it?

?? Don't think so. Mark Crossley saved that penalty. I don't recall him ever playing for Saints. Who did you think it was?

Mark Crossley scored against us once too, I recall. A 3-3 draw at Sheffield Wednesday.

It's strange with Ricky. Everytime he steps up, you just know it's going to hit the back of the net. I don't ever remember feeling so confident with a penalty taker since Le Tiss.

Looks like Jim Magilton missed a penalty for us in a 2-0 win against West Ham in 1997.

He took one slightly dodgy one this season, that just about went in. Was it agianst Fulham/Schwarzer - whoever it was, the keeper got his hand to it, and it just squeezed under. Wasn't as emphatic as Rickie's usual spot kicks.

That's the good thing with Rickie, so much power even if they get a hand to it there's still a good chance its going in.

Er, yes it was! He absolutely smashed it and although Schwarzer got a hand to it he was never keeping it out.
