And I won't be happy if we just buy Toure, Aspas and Alberto, and other similar type of players. We need real quality - only Aspas could force his way into the first team and he's not a 'big' player.

Papa and Mkhit would be a very good summer.

look i told you eriksen 8mil... its written in the stars.

anyway Aspas, he's no benteke by the videos more of a short arse.

I am thinking right now that we WERE going to push coutinho deeper like he's been playing and try for a 4-2-3-1 but i am not sure rodger sees that. the supposed work rate from aspas would make this "awesome"

    Reina
Johnson Toure Agger Enrique (right now it seems no papadopolous)
    Gerrard lucas (needs work)
    Aspas coutinho Suarez
    Sturridge

The thing is that line of 3 is every bit as good as cheslea's "in theory" hazard is young like coutinho, but i'd put ford as a mata type. ..... its better than city's IMO.

I think our midfield is questionable, Lucas needs to prove fitness and get to his level again and gerrard needs to move back and keep the passing going. he cannot play the i'll trot 30 yards forward like lampard, he must play like alonso from here on in. its unfashionable to step in to johnson's slot as he goes forward but thats what gerrard needs to do.... take it off the back 2 and then pass. his range of passing is unequalled in the prem.

Then up top sturridge is raw IMO, also injury prone. We MUST have options here. if suarez goes we need to buy eriksen AND a forward like benteke or someone.

Over all... MUCH work to be done here. CB, CM, ST and IMO if suarez needs replacing then real quality on top of "the plan"

If the plan was papadopolous that was a big error cos frankly a guy retruning from serious knee issues in march should not be a target only need to look at carroll and aquilani for why.... If the plan was robben to play with aspas AND suarez then that was ambitous....

I feel the whole thing is centred on suarez now. we need to settle the books with carroll beofre we see action and then if there is a real bid for suarez then we must have something ready to go.

I agree. I know Aspas from watching the Spanish league and he was a stand out in a really poor team at Celta but I think we should be doing better than him if we are going to be challenging for top four.

MITO - I'm not happy with that midfield. Gerrard and Lucas simply don't do it for more because they are quite static. Lucas isn't a slouch as such but he lacks that intensity of Mascherano who is a natural DM. And also, Lucas made the role his because the tactics were better suited to him. Now, our defence are far more exposed to a a static midfield and our fulls back are now more committed to attack - it leaves a lot of space.

Even a Lucas at his peak is going to struggle because the tactics simply don't help our defence. As a result, I think we need more mobile DM to help negate this.

And with regards to Robben - I don't want him. Bad attitude, has a face you want to smack and he bottles it in the big games (granted he scored in the CL Final but he had a number of great chances before hand which he messed up).

We needed first team signings even before Suarez wanted out, If he goes we will need to replace him + still sign first teamers. I hope our transfer targets so far are not dependent on Suarez leaving

Yeah, I do believe he is a step up from Downing so our first team is naturally improved as a result but with the threat of Suarez leaving and Sturridge's injuries, we need more quality - players who are used to the big stage AND deliver. Coutinho may only be 20 but he's had the pressure of being one of Brazil's biggest talents, playing for Inter and delivering at Espanyol.

Well I am not sure of BRs intention for Lago, but Alberto would be a straight (and clever) swap for SHelvey (who would leave for around the £8m) so they would net out to zero pounds! Would give us depth

I'd be happy with that. We need more players who can simply contribute to the team. Rodgers complained that we had a thin squad but I think we had a good size squad. The problem was the lack of quality in that squad.

I look at the bench and I'm not confident - Shelvey, Assaidi, Borini (I have faith in him but still developing), Suso (same as Borini but not quite ready yet).

We don't have enough match winners. We only had Suarez during the first half of the season and thankfully we added Coutinho and Sturridge.

Lol. I heard we're also close to signing some youngster (15 year old) from Valencia. He's been touted as the best talent to come out of their academy in a decade.

Alberto for Shelvey, would do that in a heartbeat.

Wondering why we have not sniffed around Bilbao btw. Susaeta, Muniain, Llorente ( is he still going to Juve??), de marcos, ander herrera. some quality in that side.

My concern with hiring British managers is that there is an emphasis on British players who are frankly not good enough.

I have to say, BR and his committee are surprising me with their choices <ok>

Another highly regarded youngster - broke the sprint records at Lisbon (which included Ronaldo and Nani). Good reading of the game and classy on the ball but could work on his physique - understandable given he's only 20.

I think he has some English blood in him or he spent time over here - speaks a few languages including English (if you listen to him speak, you would never have guessed he's based in Portugal!).

Would be a decent youngster - swap Coates and bring in Ilori. <ok>
