Could someone clear something up for me? I'm a bit of a noob on Football Manager, haven't played it a great deal. I've just started a new save with Saints (3rd game in and Ward-Prowse netted a hat-trick?!) and I've signed a new left back for the first season to compete with Shaw as I'm selling Fox. This guy is Del Horno. Basically, when I scouted him, he had a 3 or 3.5 star rating on the report, compared with Fox's 2. However, now he has signed, his star rating in current ability is 1.5, worse than Fox. However, in the majority of stats he is clearly better than Fox. Why is this?! Have a made a mistake in signing him or are my scouts just wrong? I mean, he has very good attributes.
Star ratings are either judged by your scouts when you're scouting someone or by your staff once he's in your team, usually the assistant manager. Check the attributes of whichever staff member is giving you the report and then depending on their judging current and potential ability attributes you will see how accurate it is. Hope that helps bud.
There are hidden attributes which only show up on scout/coach reports and aren't immediately visible, things like injury proneness and the like. They could be a factor, especially with an older player like del Horno.
Also, it's possible that either your scout sucks, or your assistant manager has terrible stats in judging potential/ability. With one of my lower league saves from a couple FMs ago, I inherited an assistant who was so tragically bad at evaluation that he thought half of my players were bound for PL futures. Uh yeah, they weren't.
Exactly, I recently signed Diamanti from Bologna aged 31 in the game, he's clearly an awesome player with awesome stats, but only gets a 2 star rating in the game and in my team meetings they keep telling me to flog him as he is in decline. From playing the game though I know he has scored 6 goals in 18 starts with a load of assists and has a 7.42 average rating....think I'll keep him for the time being thanks. This is the cool thing about the game, if you just went off star ratings you would sign players purely on that basis, you have to watch how they perform for your team.
Alright, cheers guys! I'll give him a shot to prove himself then if there's a lot more to it than the ratings
Yeah he is awful, I keep trying to get rid of him but the board keep blocking me because it will cost too much. The only thing he can coach well is strength, that's what I have fitness coaches for....useless. Could be worse for you though, Les Reed signed Robbie Savage up as a youth coach for me the other day when I wasn't paying attention.
I got rid of Perez as soon as they'd let me, and hired.. um, Kenneth Perez. So I basically just downgraded the son of God to a guy you'd find down the pub.
"Offer him a new contract" "Nahhhhh..." "Do it." "I can get someone else!" "Not as good, offer him a new contract." "It'll be fineeeeeeeeeee... aww I lost him"
I did try to offer him a new deal but he wanted 100k a week. And I got Wanyama and Faurlin with change to spare
Anyone ever held onto Aaron Martin? I let him go and he's now in the fourth season, he's starting for Birmingham in the Prem averaging 7.57.
I tried him in a save where I relied only upon the academy for players. He was terrible, tried blending him in slowly but no improvements and left on a free and is currently playing for Doncaster mid to low Champ season 19/20. Pretty poor stats, no pace, poor defending but good in the air, mentals have come on a bit i guess. Got pretty decent average ratings too not below 6.5 in last few years at struggling clubs.
