But the immersion you get from new games is so satisfying. I personally find most rpg's on the Xbox 360 split the game into 40 minute quests and storyline objectives which are satisfying in their own right. You still get the benefit of the processing power (e.g. town's that change depending on the decisions you have made and things u achieved earlier), even if you don't string many quests and objectives together in a single session.
Such a good game, that never really got the recognition it deserved. A group of 4 of us each assumed the role of a character, playing whenever they were involved, and played the whole game through in one sitting. At 3am, we got to the final scene, and I took control, screwed up a sequence and got my character clobbered with a piece of pipe (or something), making him fall to his death and letting the murderer escape. Before that it turnes out we'd played nearly perfectly. I've never lived that down. Loved the way you could finish the game and never know the answer too. Picked up the first one again for £3 a couple of months back, absolutely love it still, I can easily sink hours into it. Other games to add: Timesplitters: Future Perfect Gravity Rush The Resistance Series
No offence Cruyff but I'm slightly struggling to understand the question. I'll try and answer though... I should say I never had a SNES (my first games consoles were a GameCube and Gameboy Colour). I do (or at least did, when they first came out) enjoy playing games from those consoles a lot more than new games generally - partly, I think, because of the nostalgic value, partly because I only do so, maybe once a year. Also, when I said I play mario games, I was also including the most recent incarnations (Super Mario Galaxy 2, Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart Wii & 7), not just titles that are a decade old. These are the games I prefer to FPS's, although, as I said, I also enjoy replaying older games. Hope that makes sense.
1) Air sea battle - (old atari console) 2) Frogger - (Was it the spectrum?) 3) Crash team racing (PS1) 4) Populous the beginnings (PC) 5) Sensible soccer (PC) 6) Bubble bobble (atari ST) 7) Xenon 2 megablast (atari ST) 8) Rampage (atari ST) 9) Guantlet (atari ST) 10) Tekken 3 (PS1) I have dabbled with friends wii's but not really much of a gamer these days. I guess honourable mentions for Gran Turismo, GTA san andreas and some of the modern games adverts look spectacular but I would never find the time. Not a classic but bloomin adictive candy crush saga, good for 5 minutes in a waiting room or whilst her indoors is in yet another fitting room. Bah!
The ending surprised me too, finding out who the killer was. But I think I did it perfectly too, got the happy ending. If you liked Heavy Rain, you should be looking forward to Beyond: Two Souls, I know I am

There's nothing like Heavy Rain on the 360, but there's Alan Wake, Enslaved, Mafia 2, The Walking Dead (TellTale), Mass Effect 1, 2 and 3, Red Dead Redemption, Tomb Raider (the new one), Bioshock 1, Bioshock Infinite and Far Cry 3. They're all worth playing.
GTA Vice City Streets of Rage 2 Resident Evil Orignal Final Fight Resident Evil 2-3 Not a fan of the others Hitman Blood Money Golden Axe Syndicate Wars GTA 4 Hitman Contracts
I'm bagsying that Dwarf! That used to be the source cause of arguments when playing 2 player on that game.
Replayed Golden Axe on Sega Mega-drive collection for xbox the other day! Me and my mate played it for about an hour or so but it hasn't aged well, as you might expect.
I see where you're coming from and I agree, the immersion is very satisfying. The issue I have though is that you can be playing a game for hours and not be close to completing it. Take Final Fantasy IX on the PS2 for example, I know it's not a modern game, but it illustrates my point nicely. I love the game to bits, but I've never completed it because despite the fact I'd wracked up something like 50+ hours worth of game play leveling up characters, acquiring weapons etc I'd only just made it onto the fourth disc. It's not that I don't like these games, I really do. I love things like Final Fantasy, Dungeon Siege, Elder Scrolls etc but it's just so demoralising when you realise you've been playing for 20, 30, 40 hours and more and you've only completed 37% of the game.
Sensible Soccer on the Commodore Amiga - good shout GM.I also enjoyed Rainbow Islands on the Amiga Loved Manic Miner/Jet Set Willy and Lunar Jetpac on the speccy The orignal Street Fighter was revolutionary although has not aged well Pheonix, Defender and the original Star Wars arcade game where you actually sat in the X-wing to play were pretty good at the time. Sadly as I have got older and more responsibilities I have less time to play on the pc and certainly no longer can spend hours playing Age of Empires or C.hampionship Manager
Cheers! I might give Alan Wake a go! Mass Effect 2 & 3 were already on my list, altho a friend has advised me to stick to the Inreeactive Comic Book version of Mass Effect 1 on Xbox arcade.
Neverwinter Nights, best game ever made! Interesting, I've only played Populous the Beginning, which was an awesome game.
I always loved sensible soccer, there just seemed alot more skill required to score a goal and generally play it than all the fifa's. Good shout on rainbow islands, great game. Street fighter was great at the time. I also liked finalfight and bomb jack, they were both a better reasons for visiting rhino's takeaway in long stratton than the food! Bah!
I played populous I, II and the beginning and whilst all were great, I wouldn't go back, They grew incredibly with each title and not just graphically but game play too. Bah!
I don't play many games now but when I did mine were: Amiga games: Lost Vikings Sensible Soccer Lemmings Cannon Fodder ... and many more... PC games: Civilization IV Age of Empires 2 Quake Duke Nukem Worms 2/ Armageddon Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 Deathtrap Dungeon Gameboy: Pokemon Super Wario Land (SML 3 I think) PS/PS2: Final Fantasy VII (played VII to X, and XII) Grand Theft Auto 3 Probably more but I can't remember off the top of my head...
