As regards looking at what I write to people,perhaps you should practice what you preach,then you'll be on the high ground and able to make your comment. If you get my drift. So you find religion boring? Well,guess how boring your posts are when drinking,and getting pissed is regularly your sole topic? Being a non drinker,you can't begin to imagine how numbingly boring it is to read about your drinking exploits,but you won't find any complaint from me. This is predominantly a football forum but other topics creep into threads. I agree that stickies shouldn't necessarily be created simply because the OP requests it. Mods are in place to make the decision. Valley has made it,so why not let it run. If you find it boring - JUST IGNORE THE BLOODY THING AS I DO WITH YOUR DRINKING POSTS. Thanks swanselona,Dreyfus' post was not very constructive and he set himself up for a bit of piss taking. So he got what he deserved,and didn't like it. I don't regret the post,but wish I could have put a smiley or two. The negative responses from the religious lot have made me more determined than ever to keep on raising religion on the forum. The thread can lose it's sticky status any time the Mods see fit. It will be kept alive though.

Like Vetch I completely ignore Dilli's ramblings on his boozy adventures. Each to their own. I didn't ask for this to be a stickie and I'm not bothered either way. But it's interesting that those with religious beliefs are amongst the ones who are questioning the decision. My experience is that religious people get defensive when you question their beliefs. Fair enough, I understand that. This is a dogma that's probably been with them since childhood and it's difficult to listen to anyone that poses difficult questions. But I don't see why I should respect their religion. Why should I? What right does religion have to demand such respect? I can respect you as a person if you are decent, good and kind, and I can tolerate your beliefs but don't expect me to respect those beliefs. I don't respect religion at all and won't apologise for that. To label someone a racist because they criticise a religion is just wrong and plays into the hands of the extremists. I simply cannot understand why people feel the need for religion to be their moral compass. I'm openly atheistic and consider myself a decent person. Truth is, whatever your religion you cherry pick the good bits from your holy book of choice. If you're mainstream Muslim you look to the parts of the Qu'ran that bring a message of peace and you ignore the Suras that call for all homosexuals and non-believers to be executed. If you're Christian you think about the 12 Commandments, ignoring Judges 21:10-24 where Moses was sent into tribal lands by his god and he and his followers killed all the men and male children whilst raping and enslaving the young women - that's just a little bit over the top, right? You ignore Matthew 10:37 - the part where Jesus said that if you don't love him more than your own family then you aren't 'worthy' of him. Oh and let's not forget that the good old Christians don't like homosexuals either: Leviticus 20:13 "If a man lies with a male as with a women, both of them shall be put to death for their abominable deed; they have forfeited their lives." What a great message.

I have no affiliation with any organized religion. You and others assume that because I have faith, that I am religious. As I said, my faith is personal to me. So yes, you labelled me I will get over it though. Now what's that saying about don't assume ...
Pardon me for assuming that a person of faith is religious I take 'religious' to mean the follower of a religion. If you don't follow a religion then fair enough, but I'm not sure what the faith bit is all about. You must be an Independent, Swim. Whatever floats your boat.
Many argue that Atheism itself is a faith. You definately have a passion for it. Why, there are definitely fundamentalist astheists. Blurred lines everywhere
The argument that atheism is a religion is facile. I'm passionate about it yes and I wish others were more enlightened. Maybe the world would be a better place. Then you wouldn't have Sunnis setting off suicide bombs in Baghdad to kill as many Shias as possible and vice versa. It's encouraging that in a recent survey almost half the UK population said they did not follow a religion. Sadly that figure is much lower in the U.S but on the rise and Atheists are the fastest growing group there. In California they're called 'Brights' which is a bit cringe worthy. But a religion? Nah, that's anathema to us.
Atheism as a religion? Fast growing groups of shared belief? Enlightened? Well you come across dogmatic. You have obviously studied and absorbed it. You quote many of it's famous "teachers". You have a definite unquestionable belief. You dismiss anyone else disagreeing as wrong and unenlightened. Sounds to me like you have "faith" of some sorts. It seems you are more religious than I (an independent as you put it )
My religion, faith, beliefs etc are just that mine - The only thing that pisses me off is people that tell me I'm wrong and shouldn't believe - but it's Okay for fcucking Dai to have his viewpoint on how much better his beloved Brenda is. Double standards!
