I think Vertonghen was brilliant at St Mary's in the 1st half, but he did play at left back.
I remember being surprised by how good O'Shea was too.

I'm voting for McCauley & Jagielka after all that

Then in the game at the Liberty, Lallana had a perfectly good goal ruled out where he was adjudged to have interfered with Vorm, when in reality Vorm had just muffed it! He must not be looking forward to playing Swansea again next season!

Vidic couldn't cope with Rickie home or away, so doesn't even get close for me.

What? Vidic didn't have a clue how to deal with Rickie and was bullied an bossed all over the place.

That's what I thought. I thought it was downright strange that people have nominated him.

It's also strange you've nominated Samba.

Definitely the most contested set of nominations yet, a very interesting variety.

I was gonna say O'Shea and Olsson. Samba was third. To be fair we played to all their strengths.

Why? We made him look unbeatable at St Marys.

No-one can cope entirely with Rickie when he's at his best, but Vidic still won most of the aerial duels and it was only when Rickie came deeper that he got into the game. None of the three goals conceded vs Man Utd were down to Vidic. At Old Trafford, we never looked like scoring apart from the mistake that led to Jay's goal.

So the 21 shots we had didn't ever look like being a goal? Serious question because I missed the game, but that is how many shots we had.

One of those games where we never quite cracked the nut but put a lot of pressure on, I think it's unfair to say we never looked like scoring, we definitely had them very uncomfortable but only had them scrambling a couple of times. We weren't exactly rattling the frame of the goal or forcing fingertip saves though.

Well as Samba did a better job than Vidic at nullifying Rickie I'd say my nomination is less strange than yours.

Samba (as much as it grates) - for achieving the rare feat of making Lambert look like a schoolboy.

McAulley - a big part of the reason we failed to score a goal against West Brom this season.
