It must be such a hard life that you lead,Dreyfus, when scrolling past a half dozen stickies proves too much for you. There are drugs to deal with depression. Perhaps I'll create a new sticky to provide the requisite assistance to those in need. What other Boards do,or have, has little relevance here. Yes,this is a football forum, but not exclusively so. You'll find threads and debates on other topics, viz, women;alcohol;rugby;food;ice cream;rissoles;music;,oh,I could go on,but you'll probably only get more depressed, and we wouldn't be wanting that now, would we? Bye for now.
PGF,"The conflict in Northern Ireland, has political and religious roots that are centuries old",(BBC News:Quick Guide:NI Conflict).
Actually, triple post,Dreyfus, and I had to scroll past them to get where I was going. God,I feel depressed.
Who talked down to you? Not me,I just found your post and attitude to be rather pointless, and totally unnecessary, and responded with my tongue in my cheek.Go find a sense of humour.
Vetch is right. We often talk about different things here - especially in the close season. If you don't like it don't post on the thread and stop bitching, particularly since it's clear many other posters have enjoyed sharing their views. As for me, I'm an avowed atheist and find the whole idea of religion almost laughable. Many have said they are happy for religion to be criticised and held up to scrutiny. Fine. Thing is, it doesn't take much scrutiny before the whole thing falls apart. I've done lots of reading on the subject and I've seen absolutely nothing that convinces me there is any sort of god. The idea that a vastly superior being created everything is a complex one and requires a lot of explanation with too many questions that will never be answered whereas the scientific reality is rather more simple if you look into it. It was luck that life began here at all on this 'Goldilocks' planet, it was luck that an asteroid wiped out the dinosaurs (oops no mention of them in the King James Bible because no fossils had been discovered when us humans wrote the damn thing) and it was luck that Man rose out of the mire. The brutal laws of evolution kicked in and here we are in the comparative blink of an eye. Just be glad you're alive at all and enjoy every moment because if you're waiting for paradise in the hereafter you're going to be very disappointed. Makes you feel insignificant? It should - because we are. It's only human arrogance that created religion that states we are 'special'. Despite our great achievements we really aren't.
I see no humour..... Just religion bashing. I come to not606 like I would a pub. I come to enjoy. The first rule of any good pub is no talking about religion or politics as it stops being fiendly and becomes very personal. It definately has a place on the general chat forum not here imho. Hence I feel this should not be a sticky....if people really want to discuss it, it would survive on it's own merits. That is the true test on the matter.
It's not bashing, it just shows there are more people who do not conform to religious beliefs than there are who do, those who are religious are free to bash Atheism but that isn't really happening in this thread because those people are not here. On topic, I do not like the way religion constantly tries to interfere in how our country is run and Christians are by far the worst for that with Archbishops asking and getting meetings with cabinet level ministers, it is none of their business and they should stick to ordering their own members about instead of trying to influence my life when I want nothing to do with them. I am Agnostic, whilst Atheists prove to be keyboard warriors on the Internet I do not see them demanding meetings with Mr Cameron and getting them thus I have a bit more resentment for the religious establishments who are generally against secularism and expect to play a part in politics. I didn't elect them so they should zero say in the media on current events. Likewise if a cult had a history of a using children they would jailed and the cult outlawed, how come organised religion is treated differently by being allowed to continue?
My faith is just that....MY faith. I do not need to justify it. The lack of respect is coming from one direction only on this thread and its not from any religious zealots.
Tread carefully gentlemen. I suggested that this should not be a sticky either and was met with sarcastic comments by the op. Why KJ got involved is unknown but given the aggressive nature of his usual postings no surprise. This will be my last visit to this thread as I do not want to get involved in religion or politics nor do I want to argue with a poster that regularly looks for trouble.
whats up fellas. too chicken to let the thread stand on its own without sticky status Dont tell me you have a lack of faith in your thread too.....oh the irony
poor decision by Valley to make this a sticky imo however each to their own. perhaps we can have a political thread made a sticky as well?
It was not started to spread the word of Protestantism on a largely Catholic Ireland. Its primary purpose was to secure British business interests - as across the whole of the British Empire. The religous aspect is a side show that became more prominent as time went on.
