According to the Sun newspaper today. Liverpool are to fight Everton for the signature of Kone,as well as securing Aspas Liverpool appear to be taking 2 of our apparent summer targets away from us. Nothing can be done about this anyway as both Everton and Liverpool are massive clubs and if they want this player they will get him! What is a bit weird is how Liverpool seem to be shopping in our lower end market. Surely they should be after the likes of Negredo not kone ?? Anyway, its not 100% he was one of our targets but it just goes to show that if you snooze you lose in this business, a week ago thing were different, surez was going to stay at Liverpool,Martinez was at Wigan and the Swans were a decent bet to sign kone or aspas if they wanted..oh well ,as mentioned by other posters it looks like its going to be a late late show for some of our signings this season.
Nothing to do with snoozing NJ. The realities of life dictate we can never compete with the bigger Clubs (and that's most of them in the Prem). We can maybe afford the fee but the player will almost certainly double or even treble his salary elsewhere. Lovely afternoon here so I'll be out in the sunshine having a beer at the Uplands Tav this avo.
Player were targeted in January so I'm led to believe , Kone is player who we were only linked to after Wigan went down and there's no saying that he won't follow Martinez in any case.
Clubs and players know if they are wanted by bigger clubs. If a small club like Swans makes an enquiry early, it's not automatically going to happen is it..? Both player and club could wait to see if there is something better out there. They hear the rumors too, probably more as well. I'm pretty sure there has been contact between our board and the players agents and the clubs that ML has put on his list, but if the players don't want to go to Swansea or demand to much money because they can triple their wages in Liverpool or any other club, then it's just not destined to happen is it...
This is all very well but what about the list of players that Michael Laudrup gave the Board of which ALL BUT ONE were within our budget in terms of transfer fees and salaries? Where have they disappeared to? Perhaps we are playing it canny and keeping a low profile on them.
It's easy to say that a player is within our budget but things change. A large clubs interest could increase the price and salaries and thous push it outside our budget. It's not easy to know when only a part of the story is revealed...
