Keiran Westwood is one name being linked if KS goes.

Interesting article, can't quite believe Hughes has £15 million on his head though.

I remember being gutted that we missed out on Westwood before we signed Schmeichel.

If we can get him for a decent price and he gets back the quality he was at CovScum then I think he's probably the closest we can get to any sort of replacement.

Yeah, I wanted him more at the time than Schmeichel, hard to believe really!

3-4m for Andy King and 2-3m for Kasper ... what a joke! <laugh>

    Talking of silly season...

How about signing a 28 year-old for £30m, who only has 5 Brazil caps to his name (Andre Santos has 24 <yikes>), spent the last 8 years playing in Ukraine, and Man City don't even have a manager... Unbelievable!

Andy King has played under Gary Megson, Ian Holloway, Nigel Pearson (Twice), Paulo Sousa and Sven Goran Eriksson. Its a fair few but not 423

Fernandinho is a quality player. Read Jamie Redknapp's column about him on the Daily Mail, pretty much sums it up. He's a younger, more forward thinking Yaya Toure basically. Along with Jesus Navas, it's a brilliant signing.

£30m was the British record transfer fee just a few years ago though. It's all mad.

Says a lot about how we are perceived as an impatient club. We haven't stuck with a manager for any substantial period of time since O'Neill.

I didn't believe you when you said he was younger than Toure (knowing Fernandinho was 27).

Honestly thought Toure was about 26

O'Neill was allowed to achieve success because he was given time. Yes I know managers make their time theough results but you have to put faith in the manager when you appoint him.

Give them time to achieve success

One of the biggest myths in English Football.

    Time doesn't achieve success.

Rafael Benitez literally just won the Europa league with about 6 months.

Quality achieves success, time just extends it.

Depends on the manager. Some like to grow a team organically from young potential (Pearson). This will always take time, there's no getting away from it. Other's try to assemble a team of established talent (by spending good money - Sven). The life expectancy of these managers is short because they HAVE to deliver (and recoup money) quickly.

The only managers I can recall since O'Neill that fitted in the latter category (in relative terms - obviously no-one at any club has ever spent at this level Sven did) were Peter Taylor (albeit in the Prem), Martin Allen, Paulo Sousa and Sven. The others were either not good enough or not given enough time (or walked out on us in Megson's case).
