Buaben is also out of contract (another central midfielder) So if Abdi and CB do not return then we will basically we left with one CM in Jon Hogg!!!
If they don't sign, which i think they will..but if they don't, there will be others brought in to replace them. i'm not in the slightest bit worried that we will be left short.
Come on Mitch you are better than that - do you not think that the 2013/2014 squad is fully planned? We will be bringing in a squad that is designed to win auto promotion.
Ive got this feeling that it will be a last minute, 30th August rush job again But, If Almen Abdi does sign for us (as a proper transfer not a loan) then firstly I will be over the moon and secondly it will be the best signing ever made by our club.
Ha, easier said than done! This is WFC we are talking about, since when have we ever done things logically or swiftly/smoothly??
I have never heard a WFC chairman talk so positively about developing a squad since the EJ days when that economics of football made it much easier for little clubs.
I know talk is easy but Duxbury did seem to suggest they had plans in place. I would say thought we don't wan to waiting for ages to see if these loan players do want to sign or not just so we don't miss out on potential targets. Be funny if we had limited overseas players and did get promoted. Don't forget in a worse case situation we will still get 5 players on loan...
Mitch - it's bad enough that opposition fans, in spite of all that has been written, can't understand why that was necessary last year - but surely you must realise that the situation is different this year?
I understand the window closes on September 1st/2nd as the 31st is the weekend. BTW There are probably a few clubs with "only 14 or so" professionals on their books before any contracts are signed and I bet clubs like QPR wish that was all they had rather than 25 on over 25k plus....and much more in sum cases. We don't need to worry yet although hopefully Bond and Manuel will sign new contracts as we don't want to be looking for 2 new goalkeepers as I worry when trying to sign players in those positions that they only want to come if they are certain of being first choice! (which is good in a way)
It is bizarre that we haven't had any concrete news on players resigning contracts or on new incoming transfers... what has Nani been doing? Seems the Pozzo way not to make announcements. I guess we will just have to wait and see what new faces appear at the training ground when the holidays are over. It does seem that most of those not up to standard now the bar has been raised have gone or are in the process of going. I think exciting times are ahead but get ready for those Udinese B jibes to come ever stronger. Zola doesn't seem unduly concerned. There was a good picture of him on twitter yesterday playing golf with Gus Poyet and Di Matteo in Barbados.
Craig Forsyth Lee Hodson Britt Assombalonga Ross Jenkins Carl Dickinson Nyron Nosworthy Adam Thompson Tommie Hoban Jonathan Hogg Troy Deeney Matej Vydra Connor Smith Sloppy BBC again. Swap Fessi for Matty.
Those still in contract although its wrong because FF and Murray aren't on there and Vydra is whilst clearly we'll add to the squad somewhat so its a pointless petty article probably done by a Luton fan! I'll worry about squad depth at the end of August...not on June 8th! If Hall,Doyley,Bond,Eustace and Almunia sign new deals that is 19 including 2 goal keepers and 2 defenders (baring in mind we only play 3...) Ok you discount Dickinson and Forsyth I guess. Also people cannot be daft enough to think we won't have alternative plans just incase all the loan players don't want to come back? Like domestic loan signings which doesn't seem to be an issue although you could get as much as an advantage getting 4/5 Chalobah type players... I bet there are a few clubs with the same sort of number waiting for players to sign contracts or make deals. Malky said when he joined Cardiff they only had 7! EDIT: They changed it to 15...how many would Zola want anyway - bet its not much more than 25.
Actions speak louder than words though. In any case Ive never paid any attention to all that PR rubbish/spin.
I understand that the takeover was late, too late meaning Zola was appointed later than he should have been meaning there was not much time to get all these players in last summer, yeah I get that. It COULD be done early this summer (before 1st August) but I just dont think it will be for whatever reason(s) (there is always an excuse). Agents trying their hardest to convince players XYZ to not join WFC as they could earn more elsewhere etc.
Well its up to the Pozzos to sell them and if the players want to rot in Udinese or Granada reserves then so be it. I know agents are a problem though and sadly some players would rather sit in the stands picking up their millions for doing nothing. I trust we will be looking elsewhere too...
