A bit more on Cabaye from an article on NUFC.com

Some of it has already been covered but it's a bit more in depth.

    Cabaye cobbleurs...

Some interesting quotes from Yohan Cabaye widely reported today duirng an interview with Canal+.

When asked about whether a move to Manchester United would interest him:

"Yes, of course. I've liked this club for a long time, I like what they do."

"The boss has left but they have appointed a very good successor and he did some good things with Everton.

"They are always well placed among the big clubs. Yes, for sure, it would be an interesting challenge.

"I have no direct contact with anyone; maybe my agents are currently in the know.

"As for me, I am here listening. I like England as well. I will need to look at the situation but you never know."

He went on about the harmony of the squad and the French contingent:

"It is always complicated to all arrive together; the club did as much as they could to help, with an interpreter to help them settle.

“It helped, but in some ways it didn’t, as they constantly had to rely on things being translated, and also speaking French.

“But with regards to the overall group, there were never any tension. If anything, the group lived well together, and we all stuck together to avoid relegation.

“There is no doubt that if the group was working well, people would have said ‘ah that’s great, that the French have come to help the club’.

“Unfortunately it did not work that well, so obviously it became our fault, for the ones who arrived in January.

“It is a good job that we managed to save ourselves before the last match as playing at home with the pressure of the public would have made it harder.

“Also, it would have led to some bad publicity for the French players.

“They arrived in numbers in January, and at the beginning it worked well, and then we went through a bad period. If we had been relegated it would have been very difficult, and we needed to avoid it come what may.

“It is important not to attribute all this negativity to the group who arrived in January. We will use this to help us for next season.

“It was a complicated season. To pinpoint reasons for this, I don’t really know, it is a bit of everything.

“We did not particularly prepare well in pre-season; the beginning of the season; Europe and the extra matches; plus a smaller squad and a younger one.

“We encountered difficulties in playing in two competitions, also physically a lot of injuries and players were missing.

“We rarely managed the same starting XI in consecutive matches - all this added to the complication.”
    ______________________________________________________________

So, Cabaye manages to blame almost everyone except himself for our poor season. And as for the pre-season preparation, Cabaye is speaking mainly as an observer having only featured for 18 minutes against Braga....

Who knows whether he'll be here next season or not? I bet Cabs Nd his agent don't even know for sure.

It's NUFC. If you don't like roller coasters, best not to get on the ride.

£20m would be great if it was spent right and we brought the right players in.

Players that wanted to play for us.

Funny how the sniff of a departure suddenly brings criticism for a player previously well liked. Also cant see from the quoted translated interview how it can be construed to be blaming everyone but himself. He clearly points out that there were a lot of reasons for the poor season, which there were, and who is going to come out and say yeah we were all **** including me. As ever these interviews only have certain selected comments put into them and not always in their true context. Of course if a big club comes in for him he will be gone, like anyone French, English, Geordie. Its the way things are. For me he had an inconsistant season but is still a quality player and one i would prefer to see stay but like any other player i know he will probably leave sometime and hopefully whenever that is we get a good fee and spend it wisely.

So Cabaye was asked if he would like to join Manchester United....AND HE SAID YES?? How ****ing odd !

I'm pretty sure if I was asked the same question my answer would be very similar. Think NUFC are being a bit harsh on cabs if I'm honest, and I normally tend to go along with most of what they put on their website. I don't think Cabaye was anywhere near his best for us last season and that's blatantly obvious. He did come out part way through the season and open up about having depression coupled with some niggling injuries, I don't think he was ever fully fit last season. I think a good pre-season for him, and our other French contingent....coupled with some crash courses in basic English, and without the distraction of Europe I reckon we'll have a decent campaign next year!

This and Nevfur post. We had a **** season for a multitude of reasons, lots of players underperformed, not just Cabaye or French players. We need to learn to ignore these little articles and soundbites. Time to look forward and start gearing up, getting positive about the club again. I understand why some find that hard and would rather focus on the negative or say how much they hate the manager, but we'll reach a point where we are not helping ourselves. Lessons learned can help you be a stronger unit as Cabaye correctly notes. I think we will sort this out and have a good season. A couple of strikers and we're in great shape.

We might lose one or two (Cabaye could be one) but then all clubs can. It could be worse, we could be Spurs sweating over Bale!

If he doesn't want to be here he can **** right off. I'm not having him blame others when he, aside from a few free-kicks, has been as **** as anyone. Every single corner he's taken has been worthless.

I think maybe a few of you, surprised by this sort of thing, should consider that the modern footballer is now driven purely by their own income capacity and added success at one of the trophy-winning clubs.

We simply cannot compete with the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal and even perhaps Liverpool & Tottenham as well.

Nobody, not even 'local hero' Andy Carroll would stop himself from being bought out for the right price.

It's just where football is these days... Cabaye can go with my blessing if his head is no longer here.

These are all terrific players but their heart's not in it.

Some hard truths and to some degree, I don't want to agree but that is the top and bottom of it unfortunately.
