agree with Ivor here 100%....Well now both parties have made statements and got it off their chests its about time now that it is put to bed and start getting the required players we need in, Like Ivor said we will have to be ready and up and running getting the players match Fit earlier than most so its imperative we get our players sooner than later.....
I wanted to be a millionaire by now .... **** happens. I cannot feel sorry for ML. A reality check is required...or he can sling his hook. STID Be thankful for what you have got.
i think you are wrong there swim....we all know jinx has a history of doing things on the cheap and i believe laudrup when he says that the club has gone back on their word regarding transfer money. Its not the first time is it..
There is cheap...and then there is the wage structure. It seems the ML factor has its limits to me. Once we start paying people 1.5 + times the amount established/proven/loyal players are getting then there is one way we are heading. Why should we be paying these wages for an £8/10 mill signing when we ask our current crop of players who are worth that/more to play for less? He new the score .....we all know the score. Toys back in pram me thinks.
you have to realize that the longer we are in the premiership the more we will have to pay for players to stay there, we cant rely on getting players on the cheap all the time and i agree with laudrup that some of our targets will cost us £6-£8 million . Its not a lot for the type of player needed to improve on last season....Its to much of a gamble now to buy cheap especially with the amount of money involved staying in the premiership....the club should show some ambition at least...
So £40k plus bonuses a week is cheap? Sorry...not for me. Last time I looked around, we were Swansea City, with 20k capacity, infrastructure to develop and a definate criteria to never gamble the future away
sorry swim your still in lower league mode and that's where we will be heading if we dont show some sort of ambition to remain here...
IMHO, lower league mode is where we will end up by splashing unwarranted cash. If you build it, they will come... Of course we can't stay static, but not at the expense of the true goal. Europe is a white elephant. 14th to 9th, enjoy Europe and increased infrastructure/stronger foundations is enough for me this year...any more and I will be more than happy. The year after, well... Best we agree to disagree
yes we will have to agree to disagree,,but i still maintain that we need a better quality of players the longer we stay in the premiership and £6-£8 million is not much for a player in our third season....I dont regard that as going overboard when we have sold players for a lot more...
Yep Swim - transfer fees are one thing, but it is the wage demands that take their toll! We can afford to spend several million, but can we afford the weekly salary burden? And how will that impact upon the rest of the squad who are paid within our current structure? Would they be happy playing alongside someone whose pay packet is double theirs? Agree Dai that we have to push the boat out to attract the players to take us forward - but where do you draw the line? Do we abandon our pay structure in order to 'chase the dream' and possibly suffer the consequences in coming seasons? Or do we stick with our existing pay structure and live within our means? Not getting at you mate - is a hard one to answer, but I have faith in the board to make the right decisions!
I watched a short interview of Laudrups on Skysports site yesterday, and some of the quotes are from that, to me he wasn't having a moan, it just seems that way when written. To me he was just stating the obvious.
Laudrup has to buy a striker as all sides have figured Michu out, he is a AM not a striker or am I stating the fking obvious
Paying out super-high wages will set us on the road to ruin. Look at Pompey. We are a small Club punching well above our weight. I'm all for pushing the boat out a little and Jenkins will have to decide where the line is drawn. But I just can't see us being able to compete with the big boys on salaries - and we shouldn't try. Dai "....i believe laudrup when he says that the club has gone back on their word" He hasn't said that.
