Harry - wake up and smell the coffee. Generally players are released because they are not up to it, injury, fitness or something else. There are exceptions but these are few and far between. Look around at some younger players - granted you need some experience but the ones that are mentioned so far will be lucky to last 10 matches between them!

If Harry's going for older players he'd be better off signing that blond bint in the advert on the 'Mature Dating' site, we need a big pair upfront!...<laugh>

I reckon this is just desperate reporters adding 2 and 2, Redknapp is our manger, he knows those players, they've been released, therefore we are interested. After the Bridge saga this seems very unlikely.

Surely this cant be true, maybe hes going for those players on purpose knowing he will be turned down and then it will look like TFs fault when he leaves.

Can't say I agree, but I'd be happy with that outcome.

You want it all mate! That just isn't how we do things, is it? He will leave the next manager with a frightful job.

Only thing that cheers me up is that virtually everyone on here will be happy to see the back of Harry. I got very bored with the "'Arry Redknapp's Blue and White Army' dirge last season, if he's still here in August it'll be interesting to if we hear it again. I'll be happy if he goes, we survive in the NPC next season, and then take the next 2 to build something durable for the Prem.

Not holding my breath though. This is QPR.

Stand back please. There's nothing to see here.
Harry Redknapp could be set to offer a lifeline to William Gallas and David Bentley after the pair were released by Tottenham Hotspur.

Having worked with Gallas and Bentley during his time in charge at Tottenham, the 66-year-old is said to be keen on bringing in the pair, with whom he holds a strong working relationship.

As Roller quoted above this is just another lazy journo. At no point in the article is there a hard fact. The words in bold should tell you that this lazy sod is just trying to fill column inches.

Off tangent, but I wonder if Bentley regrets not going to the u21 European Championships a few years ago? He wanted to rest for the coming season and the 2010 world cup, which he wasn't picked for ultimately.

    Carpe Diem! I say!

Nail on the head with it's a joke - that's exactly what you do to ensure stable foundations - replace 30 somethings with other 30 somethings! I suppose it does bring some form of consistency i.e. the club's on-going retirement policy!

Agreed. A clear case of a journo putting two and two together and coming up with five

His wiki bio indicates he was born Aug 27, 1984 and represented the England U21's 2005-2007.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Bentley

Would he not have been ineligible to play at U21 level once he turned 22 on Aug 27, 2006? It appears though that you still get to play at U21 level for an additional year?

"International career Bentley has played for the England under-15 and under-16 teams, captained the England under-18 team and played for the England under-21 team. He recorded eight caps and four goals with the Under-21team. He was the first Englishman to score at the new Wembley Stadium in a game against the Italy under-21 team on 24 March 2007.

In May 2007, following an impressive 2006–07 season for Blackburn, Bentley was called up for the England B international at Turf Moor for a match against Albania. After naming him as a starter, England manager Steve McClaren said Bentley had the potential to become England's "new David Beckham". In that match, Bentley provided the cross for Stewart Downing's first goal and was involved in the buildup to Downing's second in the 3–1 victory for England. He received the Man of the Match award for his performance. The next day, he was named in McClaren's 26-man full England squad for the friendly match against Brazil and the UEFA Euro 2008 qualifier against Estonia.

In June 2007, Bentley was called up to the England under-21 squad for the European under-21 Championships in the Netherlands. However, he pulled out of the squad citing fatigue, and England under-21 manager Stuart Pearce questioned the midfielder's commitment to the national squad. This withdrawal led to Bentley being excluded from the senior England squad for the friendly against Germany, but he was selected for the UEFA Euro 2008 qualifiers against Israel and Russia. He made his senior debut when he came on as a substitute for Shaun Wright-Phillips against Israel, but was jeered by some of the fans due to his previous refusal to play for the under-21 squad.

Bentley started for England for the first time in the friendly against Switzerland on 6 February 2008, but had fallen down the pecking order since his debut. He missed out on the 2010 World Cup when the elder David Beckham was bookies favourite to be picked ahead of him."

I agree Rabgercol, but didn't hurt us when we signed Derry & Hill in our push for promotion. Ryan Hill did a great job too.

Age is somewhat of an illusion these days especially with the advances in training, treatment and nutrition.

For me, it's more about attitude. I we bought an older head head in, who leads by example, is a great pro without the ego then it could always be worth signing a player into his 30's.
