I was just checking something in my diary and to my horror realised that the Cardiff game was 5 (FIVE) weeks ago tomorrow. And to my further horror, the new season starts 10 (TEN) weeks tomorrow. That will mean our close season will have lasted 15 weeks ! That must be some record for us surely ?
It's painful! At least last year we had the Euro's, Olympics and TDF....This summer is a bit arduous!
There is much going in in sport at the moment. I am enjoying the long break and i bet the players will also. The sporting summer has football - cricket - F1 - tennis and the nLions tour of oz for the egg chasers. Pre-season friendlies are starting in early july at many local clubs. Speaking of which it appears that the reason why Hull City are playing at North Ferriby and Winterton on the same night is due to the fact the the entire squad and staff Fly out to there summer training camp in Portugal on the tuesday. Winterton had 2 options so they took the first one. Sadly its the fans who now have to make a choice.
I personally love the close season - stress free Saturdays and mid week away fixtures in particular. Gives every time to recharge their batteries - players and supporters alike. Looking forward to thumping the Aussies again in the Ashes this summer.
I'm following the Criterium du Dauphine at the mo (day 6) - Froome in the lead and Richie Porte (also Sky) 2nd. http://www.steephill.tv/criterium-du-dauphine-libere/ TdF starts on the 29th June.....
And gardening tickler - dont forget that. With no football and the nice(ish) weather this is all she ever nags about!
Have to see the girlfriend more often unfortunately, she already made me miss england v brazil and the play off final
I missed both, but not because of her. One was a wedding and the other was the opportunity to get pissed and annihilate pigeons and rabbits. Only ever missed 2 games coz of her, Forest away 2 years ago which was my fault for double booking without checking the fixture list, and when we moved into our new place, udders at home this season. She always used to nag "can't we do this, can't we do that instead". She doesn't bother now, she knows what she'll get. A polite "how's about bollocks" and a firm backhander for having the cheek for thinking she's more important than football. Women
I can't understand why so many people say cricket is boring but can get entertainment from cycling and motorsport.
I can't believe you just put Motorsport in the same bracket as cycling and cricket you dunce. Motorsport is almost as exciting as football. And far more fun to partake in yourself than football, by a billion light years.
That's exactly what I was thinking. Cycling and motorsport as spectator activities would send me to sleep. A good game of cricket on the other hand gets adrenaline going!
I actually enjoy watching the alpine skiing during off season, enjoying the off season though although possibly having to go to bridlington next saturday is mortifying
The Confederations Cup starts next week as well (the last one 4 years ago in South Africa was pretty good I recall),and the u21's are on at the minute too... And the 18th June,at 9am it's the fixtures for next season..
I honesty don't understand how they can't watch football, another girlfriend 'let' me watch city against palace two seasons ago i think on sky, but she was moaning like **** because xfactor was on at the same time, almost locked her in the freezer, disgraceful behaviour
You're watching the wrong Motorsport old chap. F1 and moto gp can be pretty dull as its always the same few break a mile infront and you may get a little race over second and third. Try watching british superbikes, world superbikes, motocross in all its forms, same with quads, rally, stock car racing, manufacturer racing etc. etc. Excitement guarenteed.
I know no one will agree with me. I just don't find either of them interesting at all. I guess it's the lack of variety that does it for me. Even in cricket, which is admittedly a very slow game, various things can happen and there's a lot of technique involved. In sports where it's just a simple race I just feel like there's nothing to surprise or impress me about any of it; even if it's an exceptionally good leg of the Tour de France for example, all it's going to be is fast, there'll never be an amazing bit of skill, or a ridiculous turn of events like the Leicester v Watford playoff semi. I'm only really passionate about football but I can watch anything with a ball and find some entertainment in it. If cycling or motorsport are on telly that's in the same bracket as 'Homes under the Hammer' for me. Can't tell if you're being sarcastic there or not
