Just ruined my day reading that. :(

Whenever I browse in a library or bookstore, his is the first name I look for - in the hope that a new Wilt/Els has been released. Even now, years after first reading it, I still get a belly laugh over the exploding ostriches scenario he wove into Indecent Exposure - sheer brilliance. RIP

Was it just me who found Tom Sharpe's books far more entertaining than the TV series?

With that thought I'll say good night to all you lovely people!

    Night all <hug>

    Night H <smooch>

I have been listening to him all this year - big regret is I mucked about and did not get tickets to see him in London in January. But I did see him supporting Ed Sheeren just before Xmas, just brilliant. Check out the YouTube clips I put on the music thread, the one from Cambridge is wonderful.

Dan - hope you enjoy it!

My fav Sharpe moment is the eversion therapy sessions for the Konstables to stop them from "fraternising" - what an imagination!

I could never get into Tom Sharpe's books. Tried several times, but apart from the odd chapter it never raised any desire to read more. Maybe I will give him another go and see if I was just being dim as usual.

    Evening all

7,500 words of 'The Morning Gift' now revised...only about 100,000 to go!

On the plus side, two lovely sunny days - one watching Hampshire/Kent at the Rose Bowl, the other pottering in the garden. Against that, the garden fence has suddenly decided to lean strongly towards my neighbour. The local fence man visited today and suggested concrete reinforcements are needed and £540 should do it. To my list of "You never see a poor lawyer, dentist, plumber" etc, I shall now add "You never see a poor fencer." <steam>

Try "Wilt". I literally cried with laughter to the point of excruciating pain and bladder failure. "The hand.... the hand" <rofl> His books did not come across too well on the screen alas, though PHB wasn't bad. Will be missed.

£540? Christ, for that I'll take a day off and come up and do it myself! Apart from the fact it comes under gardening and I am allergic to gardening.

True - in the words of a famous Italian fencer, "'E want a fence, épée for it."

I'll get me coat....... - need it, it's raining up here. :(
