Holtby has looked impressive all game in a number 10 role. And here we are, wondering who could possibly replace VDV... I get that Holtby wasn't a quick success last year... ...Holtby scores... ...but it may not even be that he was not ready, just that he needed time to gel with his teammates. It's certainly an option to consider.
2-2. Good goal from Holtby. Very questionable defending and 'keeping but Holtby did well to take advantage.
The goal involved pace, direction, good use of both feet and a sense of determination. Well played Lewis.
You can tell there's too many Spurs fans supporting the Germans, they've gone and thrown it away after clawing 2 goals back.
Just rewound it to have another look. He's done well but seeing a defence allow a player to skim across them on the edge of the area like that is something that always annoys me as it's easy to force a player away from goal when they do that. I was very harsh on the 'keeper though, not much he could've done.
Holtby played well for Schalke in a no.10 role I watched too, yet some say he should play deep. If the no.10 is his favoured role (does anyone know?), it may explain why we've only seen bits so far, with the free role mostly given to Bale.
He said in an interview awhile ago that although he gets played as a number 10 a lot he prefers playing in the midfield of a 433 or a deeper role in a 4231. Players don't always know what's best for themselves though, I think he makes a good number 10.
i've always said he should be considered in the 10 role. Its useful he is adaptable enough to play in deeper roles but in glimpses he has shown he has a quick mind, a decent pass and a decent shot.
Ex Spur notso, the infamous Robbie Keane, will become ROI's most capped player when he gets his 126th tonight against the Faroe Islands...could be a very good night for him. Well done Robbie. A sidenote for all you keen England followers! Montengro take on Ukraine tonight, an important game in our group, a win puts them 5pts clear. I know we have a game in hand and to play them at home, but at the halfway point I still would not have put a bet on that....unless I was Andros of course!

Blimey, Montenegro stuffed 4 zip at home, the Sweaty's beat Croatia away, notso gets a hat-trick, and Balotelli uncharacteristically sent off! http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22802344 notso has joined illustrious company with his 59th goal, Keane is now the fifth-highest international goalscorer in European history with 59 goals. Only German duo Miroslav Klose (67) and Gerd Muller (68) and Hungarian pair Sandor Kocsis (75) and Ferenc Puskas (84) have scored more. Keanes tally more impressive in having qualified less for finals.
Really pleased for Keane, if only England had a player that gave a **** about playing for their country. That Montonegro result keeps a lot of pressure up on us as Ukraine play San Marino twice and have Poland and us at home. We can't just scrape through to the playoffs beating Moldova and drawing again against the rest, we're going to actually have to go out there and beat some decent sides which is a scary thought for all of us that have been watching Woy's Wevoloution. Anyway, our under 21s take on Norway at 5 today.
The Spurs-heavy back line is restored to face an experienced Norway side: Butland; Smith, Caulker, Dawson, Rose; Henderson, Lowe, Chalobah; Ince, Redmond, Zaha. The Scandinavians have 14 players in the squad with senior caps. Thomas Rogne is probably the only name that anyone might recognise though, as he was at Celtic until very recently, turning down a contract offer to look for a starting place.
Nice little interview with Rose in the build up, fell quite behind rewinding the Arsenal goal they put in there. Still raises a huge grin
England concede from Norway's first real attack. Looked like he controlled it with his arm and Butland was poor, but that was sloppy.
