The scaffolding you see housed the TV cameras. The photo is taken from The Roker end, and the far end was the Fulwell End.
clockstand, august 1976 v arsenal, how many of you old buggers were there, and what was the score? please log in to view this image
The original clock had 1936 on it in red letters. It was put there that year to celebrate winning the league.
My first seven years were spent in the Clockstand, surrounded by Vaux's lads etc. Think it was seen as a bit of a safe haven for young lads, was a very friendly stand, bit of atmosphere, and then it was a personal choice thing if you migrated to the Fulwell or the Main Stand Roker wing. My greatest memory of the Clockstand was Peter Reid's first game in charge, i was right in line when Russells shot was tipped up in the air by the Sheffield United keeper, but the blustery wind (and i swear the packed Fulell end blew it as well!), it span and dipped and dropped in. BEDLAM. Wonderful memory, one of my favourites of so many live forever moments i have from following the lads. I moved to the Roker Wing the next season.
I never stood anywhere else but the Clockstand, because I prefer a side on view of matches. Can't do much about it at away games though
I actually started my match viewing as a 5 year old in the Clock Stand, complete with one of those bits of wood on a rope to hang off the spikes at the front of the terracing. It was always my ambition as a kid to be in the Fulwell, which I did as a teenager - then the Roker End (which I never really liked) and the Main Stand. Final match at Roker saw me back in the Fulwell for a last hurrah - and I don't mind admitting I cried like a baby !!
Ha ha them wood on ropes thngs, class. I never had one like, i tended to cling on to the railings perched on the ramp thing up the side of the steps. ****ing hell i feel old.
was it the clockstand when mr bennet and that nice scottish chap mr speedie had a little gentle disagreement?
j had one of them, i was always plonked right next to the away team dugout, and remember thinking wish i could see better, and had an adopted family of hundereds taking care, thinking wish i could hurry up and grow, i want to be in the roker end. which i eventually did, and although many times in the fulwell end, always reverted back to the roker.
Always the Roker End until I became able afford a season ticket then it was Main Stand. I seem to remember the clock on the Clockstand never showed the right time
the one that says "Farewell to roker park 1898-1997 The memory lives on Clockstand seats" and was on the seat 73 which i was given
