It has been reported that Newcastle won one thing last year, club with most reported injuries.

One that we don't want to see again and I hope there is some real analysis by our medical team as to the reason why. I am a bit perplexed as to why our players received so many training ground injuries. Could it be down to poor coaching or do we buy too many players with injury histories.
    Welcome your views.

It's nice to see we've been recognised for such an achievement as our Physio, Derek Wright has been called up to the England Under 21 medical team for the forthcoming European Tournament.

Whereas I think we do need to look at the medical side of things, surely a big part is placing too much strain on a small squad? Lots of travelling, minimal preparation time, fatigue from number of games etc. I don't think anyone, even Mike Ashley, would dispute that we went in light last season and paid in a number of ways.

I wouldn't be surprised to see with the additions from January and the reduction in number of games, we lose our position at the top of this table next season!

He's surely got enough experience. Poor bloke probably wanted the break.

On Norma's point, time is a great healer. Although not communicated properly, you have to take the comments from Arsenal's backroom team into account. And I just find that every day I'm further away from THAT season, the easier it becomes to look at it objectively. Just like how the playing staff couldn't cope, I don't think the management team could either.

Looks a very misleading table though doesn't it. Long passes and long hopeful balls are two very different things. We undoubtedly did do too much of the latter last season of course, but I'd still hazard a guess that Stoke and West Ham did more of the hopeful variety. For instance how do Liverpool, Spurs, Fulham and Wigan all get honorable mentions? Brendan Rodgers believs in bloody tika taka, and Wigan although not the free flowing team everyone would have you believe, do tend retain possession.

I am not saying we didn't get a bit hopeful at times because we blatantly did but stats are misleading in any format. Including injuries, shots on target, etc. I am not a big fan of football by stats, I think it is a load of bollocks. It is informative to a point but surely what you see with your own eyes still can't be beaten?

Any team will always go longer in a poor season too, players don't want the ball!

It's down to the quality of the facilities and staff... Chelsea played many more games than us and their injury record is far better.

They didn't have great numbers... Rafa was starting to have to play youngsters.

Their first team squad was bigger than ours. Also with more players comfortable playing at this level. There was no panic buying in January to try and ease the strain on the squad. Its comparing apples with oranges. Lets not forget we have many more injury prone players in the squad too.

They had 24 first team players registered which included three goalkeepers - after that they had to use their academy players.

It's not really about how many players they've got, i'm just saying their facilities are obviously superior.
The ratio of injured rather than the amount.

As I say we went with a smaller squad, more ill equipped with players capable of playing at PL level (which means playing senior players when you don't really want to), and we have many more injury prone players. HBA, Saylor, Marveaux, Raylor, Shola, Gosling Vuckic all love spending time with the physio. Surprising really I'd rather spend time with Chelsea's than Derek!

They undoubtedly have better facilities, and better medical team. However I do not think it is the single biggest factor in how many injuries you pick up. The table is misleading because there are too many variable which are ignored. Size of squad, quality of squad, number of long term injuries and so on. Hence the season before when our small squad was tasked with fewer games, it coped better bar a spell at Xmas.
