I honestly don't see an issue at all - and it's a bit daft to comment on something that you've never tried. As has been mentioned above, as long as there's some semblance of variety within a person's life, then really what's the problem if they spend one or two evenings a week indulging in FM? To be honest, I'd far rather my son stay in now and again and do something that actually even has an educational role (in terms of footballing knowledge - playing that game a couple of nights a week gives you at the very least the scouting knowledge of Redknapp), than was out smashed off his skull in a pub, snorting lines of gak and pissing his money up the wall, before getting in a fight. Times have changed and the advent of the computer with it's ever more complex, realistic games, has meant that people have different interests now. Sometimes it's good, sometimes a kickabout in the park with your mates would be better. As with all things, it's about balance. Having played the game itself, and also being a slightly older member of the board, I can confirm that it's actually excellent and a lot of fun once you get into it.
I play football manager and I am not a virgin and im not a nerd, its more about playing a game you like. Go bore some other people

Gaming is a hobby like any other. It's the people on here who seem to have no interests other than football that mystifies me.

I spend some of my spare time playing games. Beats watching tv anytime, which i don't do. Do you watch tv at all? If so do you find it a useful way to spend any spare time?
Computer games are great because in real life you can't bomb through built up areas at 90mph in a Lamborghini, crash it, go through the windscreen, pull out a desert eagle and randomly murder some strangers, lob grenades in hospital waiting rooms, etc etc
You can also win the Champions League with Aldershot Town, beat Sebastian Vettel in a Formula 1 race, beat David Haye to the World Heavyweight title and beat Tiger Woods in the PGA Masters. And that's all in one evening...
You are everything wrong with the world. Anyway. Godders, as much as this thread is clearly bait to fools, I have been interested by this placement of sex as a barometer for success in life. You throw the word 'virgin' like it is a mark of a lesser being, fascinating. Women are tarred as unworthy if they are sexually active and men are reviled if they are not. Now I originally thought you were of reasonable intelligence but unfortunately I believe I was wrong. You have displayed a surprising inability to attempt to understand and identify with a cultural shift occurring in the world, while many other posters on the thread have shown themselves unable to respond eloquently when they are defending an interest. They failed to realise that the OP was not an attack on a personal level, but more an attack on a medium which has already proven itself to have creative, inspirational and artistic merit. The thread really shows a disappointing side to many of the users here and the OP himself, though previously esteemed, logical and eloquent, has tarnished his reputation with such ill-advised, poorly thought out jibber-jabber.
It's essentially an elaborate dolls house, which is why is has performed so well with a female audience. My wife and I were talking recently about how it hits on all of the gender specific role play games that engaged her and friends as children. The draw for men is more physical, acquiring new property and building houses. It's a rare game that appeals to opposing traditional gender roles at the same time.
