Perhaps makes another loan deal possible? Do we really want him, Remy and Barton on our books next season?????

    • Tottenham midfielder punished for misconduct over betting
    • Three months of the ban are suspended

The Tottenham midfielder Andros Townsend has been suspended from all football for four months, three of which are suspended, after breaching betting regulations, the Football Association has confirmed.

Townsend, who was also fined £18,000, was charged for breaches of FA Rule E8(b) for misconduct in relation to betting, which he admitted and requested a personal hearing.

The punishment from the independent regulatory commission is subject to appeal and backdated to 23 May, when the player voluntarily withdrew from the England Under-21 squad for the European Championships. He will therefore be free to take part in Tottenham's pre-season and available to play at the start of the new Premier League campaign.

An FA statement said: "Three months of the suspension is suspended until 1 July 2016 and will be automatically invoked upon a proven breach of The FA Betting Rules during that period."

When told by the FA representative that he would be fined £18,000, Townsend produced a 50 pence piece from his pocket and tossed it high in the air.
"How about double or quits?" he asked.

Am I missing something? Banned from all football yet it actually starts after the season finished and he only misses a couple of U21 Internationals....not exactly a punishment when it falls in the off season........If the FA want to start resembling a competant organisation surely any ban should have been from the start of next season.......Barely a slap on the wrist.......

It's nonsense, a nothing punishment from someone who admitted to being guilty as soon as he was charged! Still don't know what it is exactly that he has done?! Did he bet on rangers to lose every week, cos that's hardly insider knowledge. A 2 year old could've predicted that!! The ban should start from the 1st day of the season! It's all B*****ks.......

I guess they saw him withdrawing from the U21 Championship (I think it's the Euro's?) as punishment enough - I don't know if we've got a chance to win it, but he stands more of a chance than he will with the seniors...

BBC - "It is believed he was not accused of betting on games he had involvement in."

Loads of players gamble on games I'm sure. Very few are stupid enough to do so in a way they can get caught.

Out of interest, does anyone know the exact rules? Can a bloke playing for Rochdale not have a fiver on a Prem game?

<laugh> Just wait until a pic shows up of him having a kick around on the beach in Ibiza, he'll be in real trouble for ignoring his suspension then.
