Okay, we're not all talented song writers, but since Mr Frenchie posted Rookery Mike's claim that the reason we don't sing is because we don't have any songs that are unique to Watford, i thought it would be a good idea to see if we can find some songs that we can put forward to the general Watford public through the wonder of social media...and put to the people who are getting the momentum behind building the noise in the Vic.

So, even if you think it's daft, stick it here. Nothing could be more daft than silence at the Vic! ;)

I think we may have an old thread somewhere where we had a go at this. I seem to remember composing some words to the tune of 'Lola', featuring our current manager of course!

Why not simply adopt the old Simon & Garfunkel song - The Sound of Silence? <whistle>

We just need a good old pop song that has a good old chorus that we can all belt out - does not have to be strictly related to Watford but something simple that everyone can belt out. I seem to remember that Palace were belting out "Glad All Over"...what about "Hi Ho Silver Living"?

I think you're right there Dan - how about the old Honeycombs hit 'Have I the right' - it was a bit of a belter, especially the chorus.

Like it BB - exactly what we need.

Dan - Trouble with Yellow in a football context is is just not a "belter" as BB states. We need something with a good strong rhythm and chorus that everyone can shout along to. Great song as it is, Yellow is a bit of a dirge at a football match

In an idle moment I put a few words to the Honeycombs...needs a bit more work perhaps...

    Hornets will always sting you,
    Hate Luton, batter Man U
We're better from the very start

Come on Horns, let's all hear it
We've got the skill, no-one else is near it
Lloyd's right back and all our team is strong

The thing is, if it is going to be THE 'Watford song', we can't really have any reference to current players/managers. Maybe a few lines singing the legends name - a bit like Fields of Anfield Road (Athenry). It needs to be a song that we can adopt as our own and use it for a very long time

Plenty of teams just adopt a song and have it as theirs without actually changing the words - could that be an option? An Elton John song would be an obvious choice (I'm Still Standing - after last year!).

EDIT: Would also prefer no reference to that team up the road!

If you're going for an Elton song, surely it has to be "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" for the "yellow" reference!
